In yet another startling development in the seemingly resolved but apparently now still ongoing mystery surrounding former WaPo source, Deep Throat, Deep Throat has just released a statement claiming that he is actually NOT former pillar of the FBI, W. Mark Felt.
Allegedly the former Deputy Chief of the FBI created himself as a composite of ABC Newsman Ted Koppel and former Steve Allen and Bob Newhart Show co-star Tom Poston.
Felt, er, um, the composite has said that he will eventually reveal his true identity but now only after the deaths of both Koppel and Poston. "I was just sick and tired of those two vultures Woodstein and Bernwood waiting for me to kick so they could score with a bestseller," said the aging composite figure. "Now, leave me the hell alone and go chase down Koppel and Poston and see how the hell they like it."
No spokesperson for Bob Woodward, Carl Bernstein or the Washington Post was available for comment at press time; however, Washington insiders are confirming never having seen Felt, Koppel and Poston together at the same time.
Evidently the mystery lingers on.
