Some in Aruba are speculating that the recently arrested Croes, see previous posts below and here, may be released. That is totally unconfimed. Apparently Croes is divorced and his ex-wife has gone on the record as describing him as a gentle man.
As an aside, meant to convey no disrespect for Natalee's disappearance and this tragedy, I'm compelled to pass along the following from a reliable source in Aruba.
The former Ms. Croes is reported to have relayed a story to reporters meant to shed some light on the disc jockey's character, saying something paraphrased as "Once he stepped on a lizard and felt so badly, he just cried."
It's my understanding that the lizard is no longer available for comment.

Please say this is a joke.

Dan-
Thank you for the update...and the comic relief!
Geez...if only lizards could talk!

"Once he stepped on a lizard and felt so badly, he just cried."
jesus, that's b.s. - Aruba has millions of f*ing lizards running around... Aruban people hate those things lol, and when it comes to animals, they're heartless and cold to animals..!

Seems to me we should step on him.
Any news on Natalee and the investigation?
Posted by: Tanya | Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 12:56 PM
I just channeled the lizard's ghost - he says Steve Croes did not cry when he stepped on him :P
Posted by: Getagrip | Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 12:57 PM
I heard that he stooped on the lizard. And laughed.
Why did i just have to say that? Yes bad me, its just that its been a long night and i really needed that laugh there at the end from Dan. I am sure most readers here understand.

Does anyone have any info on Max Arends?
Posted by: Sadgirl | Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 01:04 PM
I think Croes is just another "smoke and mirrors" suspect. Anybody they can try to drag into this to draw attention ..... and blame .... away from the judge's Daddy's, will be.
Posted by: Trish | Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 01:04 PM
oops. I meant to change Daddy's boy to judge's boy. I took out "boy" instead. I need some sleep. :)

The Vigilante news paper from Curacao Reports that the Croes guy might have been involved in breaking and entering on of the fishersman's huts, where appearently a fisherman reported that ropes, ankers, and tape have been stolen.
Could it be that the poor kid got killed after all and sunk to the bottom of the ocean somewhere?
I hope that this is a wrong assumption and that she is alive somewhere on the island

Max Arends: http://connect.tickle.com/profile/index.html?id=FGVRe6P.EeVx-W8c
I think his age is listed incorrectly in his tickle profile. He was a classmate of JVDS. I posted a link to their school's newsletter under another post where both their names are mentioned.

Arends is the last name of an Aruban investigative reporter covering this case. Dilma Arends. Another coincidence of name, I guess.

ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Three suspects being held in Aruba jails will be transferred to prison today, following a judge's ruling that they could be held for another eight days in the case of an Alabama teen who disappeared from the Dutch-occupied island three weeks ago, FOX News has learned.
*****found this on foxnews just seconds ago. Wonder which 3?

Awe, poor little lizard.
Posted by: diane | Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 01:32 PM
Is it true that fishermen huts were robbed of rope etc.?
Posted by: tanya | Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 01:34 PM
Anyone know Croes's wife or know how to contact her? Or the Arends boy?
Posted by: Souvlaki | Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 01:45 PM
I heard that Croes and wife are separated, with a 2 year old child. First of all, I don't think it really matters very much what anyone feels about someone else's disposition. We have all been guilty of stepping out of our "norm" in times of high stress or in unexpected situations that could have serious consequences...however, considering most of us wouldn't go as far as to commit a crime. Plus, considering this is his wife or ex-wife, she might have other motivations for saying those things. After all they do have a young child...does Aruba make fathers pay child support? hhmmm

Fox will have an hour long special on the search for Natalee at 3:00pm eastern.
Posted by: Florida Girl | Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 02:09 PM
I still think the Croes-being-released story is getting mixed in with the Max Arends-questioned-and-released story. Arends, according to Fox, was brought in for questioning and released. Croes is the one still in custody, I believe.

For a country with as little crime as it claims to be, it looks like the proverbial "fit is hitting the shan" right now.
"Latest developments in Aruba:The latest occurrences in Aruba suggest that the island is currently going trough very bad times. Starting with case of Natalee Holloway who has been missing since may 30th . The local authorities aided by the FBI and some Dutch experts have not been able to crack this case yet. As if this case wasn’t enough, Hasibokos.com has received information that the police have found a (partially) decapitated body of an Aruban male Saturday morning in the neighborhood called Sabana (see map). The scene at the house and the cemetery have been described as gruesome and bloody. . According to preliminary (unconfirmed) reports the man was murdered in his house and then later dumped in a cemetery close by. There are also reports of an additional person who’s missing on the island. The pickup truck of the missing man has been found, but the man himself is nowhere to be found. This recent murder and additional missing case are all being investigated."

re: Latest Developments
Of course the Arubans say there is little or no crime on the island; everything is either legal or ignored by the government. My wife and I got a good laugh out of the interview (audio only) with the manager of C&C's. Although Van der Slime was well-known to everyone there (frequent visitor), the manager claimed that "No one under 18 gets in the door."
People are digging up stories of Columbian drug wars with factions on Aruba, some even showing that the Columbians at one time tried to do a hit on a ministry official.
No crime? Everything is either hushed up or the polis looked the other way. Or a "wink, wink, nudge, nudge, "I see nothing. Where's my money?"

What is the gang sign I keep hearing about? I did not see any gang sign in Max's photos?
I ask because I have teen children and some 'gang signs' are actually other messages.
Please advise.
thanks

One thing that comes to mind - Joran's defunct web site....him and his homies flashing gang signs. Ok, hip hop culture and wanna-bes. But if you wanna-be, you can be.
Is it unreasonable to suspect Joran and his accomplises of being in a gang thing? No. And given that this may be the case, drug dealing, treating women as play toys, and even killing to protect one's freedom, if these sleaze balls perceive circumstances as such - all this could come into play.
A criminal ideation and pursuit would give them underworld connections...sure, petty, but enough to dispose of a body out to sea.

There is no gang sign you guys, it is all wrong.. In aruba we have no gang signs.. maybe some people try to copy it from the gettho's in the states such as Brooklyne New York Etc.. I'm not saying that America is a gettho I'm only reffering to some parts, There is no gangsigns in Aruba, I'm a very close friend of the main suspect and I know he doesn't have any gangsigns..
