Just had a communication from Aruba - search dogs have gotten a "hit" in quarry near the Van der Sloot house, dive team being rounded up.
As posted yesterday, today's grids covered areas more accessible for the boy(s) working on a tight timeline.
I'm told there will be a press conferece at 1PM. Also, dogs said to not false alarm for non-human remains. Appears find is in very deep water of quarry, quarry was once drained and a corpse suspected to have been there for approximately ten years was discovered at that time.
Correction - quarry was low as result of drought when previous remains were discoverd. It was not drained.

Gale,
The family is either there or in route. Divers are there now.

Was it determined if C and C has security cameras? You know they make money hand over fist...If I owned a major tourist bar like that I would make darned sure I had excellent security, and people watching out for young ladies. I would also make sure no underage people were in my establishment. Had the bars and casinos enforced their rules Joran wouldn't have had such easy access.

This hasn't even been reported on TV yet.

Has anyone else heard about a woman missing from her cruise ship in the caribbean - not Amy, this just happened over the weekend. I heard it on CBS Saturday night.
Posted by: TexasGirl | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:56 PM
Texas girl,
shut up.
Stop bashing the Dutch, respect please.
Posted by: Vander F | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:58 PM
They're not even not reporting this on TV yet.
Posted by: Shari | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:58 PM
Texas Girl,
I haven't heard anything...and have access to AP wire. Keep Fox on 24/7 What have you heard?
Posted by: bamamom | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:59 PM
Shari,
It has been requested by the family that it not be reported unless they have a confirmation.
Posted by: Justin T | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:00 PM
TexasGirl, I also heard abt the missing woman from the cruise.
In May, a friend of mine was on a cruise with several ports, the last being Aruba. A middle aged Vietnamese American couple vanished, and they were unable to port in Aruba...FBI, and Coast Guard involved. They had to turn around & go to St. Maarten.

Thanks, Justin.
Posted by: Shari | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:00 PM
Justin - What do you think, is this her?
Posted by: crs | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:01 PM
Keep in mind bad things can happen to anybody anywhere...this is not about Aruba...it could be anywhere...Daytona...Madrid...my point is...I have to take off my shoes at the airport...I have to walk thru an xray to get into the courthouse. Maybe these big bars where sooooo many young college girls go should invest in additional security...protect their patrons a bit more. True Joran could have just as easily stalked her on the beach...But he had no business in there underage.
Posted by: bamamom | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:03 PM
bamamom,
You're right. This has nothing to do with Aruba. Unfortunately this type of thing happens all over the world. May the family find peace today.

Does anyone know how close this quarry is to the VDS home? 5 minutes away? 500 feet away? Sadly, if this is true, it could be anyone's remains -- including, but not necessarily, Natalee's.
Posted by: Cmoney | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:06 PM
I saw them interview Natalee's dad at this quarry last week and it is a regular dumping ground for cars, appliances, you name it.. they even mentioned there was a odor coming from this area..plus it was near Joran's home but the Aruban police had not even searched this area.
Posted by: Sarah | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:07 PM
crs,
yes I think it is very possible. It fits with what is felt and known to have really happened that night.
Posted by: Justin T | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:07 PM
If it is the same that I saw on the news it is very close. There was an old truck dumped down in it....lots of grabage...It shocked me they hadn't searched it.
Posted by: bamamom | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:07 PM
CMoney, I can't help but wonder if that was really where Joran was the night Natalee's parents came to his house and Joran's dad had to call him..etc.
Posted by: turtle | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:08 PM
I did hear yesterday in spite of what Dan has posted the dogs are not as accurate midday.
Posted by: crs | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:08 PM
turtle, I wouldn't be surprised if you were right.
Posted by: Shari | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:09 PM
About the woman who disappeared on the Elation last weekend, according to the Houston Chronicle, her family said that it was not an accident and they do not believe foul play was involved. The article went on to say that they could not go into details to respect the family. Sounds like suicide.

Posted by: charlene | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:09 PM
Sarah,
Not the same place. The hit was in another body of water.
Posted by: Caribmom | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:10 PM
The dj guy is not in custody anymore.
Posted by: Shari | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:10 PM
crs,
I would guess it would depend on just how sensitive they would need to be. The gases could give off a pretty strong smell. But what you say does make sense
Posted by: Justin T | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:12 PM
why not and why was he in custody in the first place?
Posted by: charlene | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:13 PM
Justin,
would you share your thoughts on what is felt to have really happened to Natalee? thanks in advance,
with prayers for Natalee, her family and friends,
Gus

Charlene - Where have you been? Under a rock? Go back and read the posts/news from the last 4 weeks.
Posted by: livesatthebeach | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:14 PM
My daughter 19 was raped by someone she knew. She went immediately to the police (in Alabama) They did not send her to the hospital...and told her it was going to be her word against "his". Did not even come to her home and collect evidence...blew it under the table. She was so ashamed and felt like it was her fault...she told me two days later...I was furious went to the police station and questioned the detective. Went to the DA...etc. Come to find out this 28 year old had been in two court cases prior and was able to get out of it. My daughter's case could have put this guy away..but the police botched it.
So...where I am going with this..If Fox wanted to follow up...and create a helping healing situation....I think they should post a 1 800 number...for girls who were raped on their last night...and too ashamed to report it. I think that info needs to be gathered. And addressed. It might be the media's chance to become proactive and protect the next girl.

so everyond here thinks that joran killed her? i think the dad has a big part in it. i hope shes alive
Posted by: charlene | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:16 PM
turtle, that's a horrific thought, isn't it? You could be right, but I don't know *what* to think at this point. There's no public knowledge of any evidence pointing to a crime -- and "suspects" are being released. I hope that Aruba LE knows what the hell's going on -- but, I wonder if they're capable enough to conduct this type of investigation.
Posted by: Cmoney | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:17 PM
bamamom - So sorry for your daughter, but what a wonderful idea. It would be so great to see something positive come out of this tragedy.
Posted by: livesatthebeach | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:20 PM
no i have not been under a rock! i just missed that part and i was totally confused . all i have is local news!!and they didnt explain about the dj at all!!!gosh

Yesterday evening Geraldo Rivera interviewed two of the volunteer rescuers from Texas who are in Aruba with Equusearch. They were asked about target search areas. They responded that five target areas were to be the priority, and that the old stone quarry, now filled in with water, would be searched today.
One of the searchers clarified that this stone quarry had been searched (for lack of a better word) by the Arubian police. But, the Aruba police force does not have the equipment needed to examine this quarry so the head of police specifically asked the Texas team to make this one of the target areas. The head of the Texas search team stated that the Arubian police were working directly with them to strategize search areas. he also added that the last thing the chief of police said to him was "Be successful, please!"
The quarry is reportedly located not too far from the Van der Sloot home.

Charlene,
This has been on all news stations local and cable for days. The dj was detained for questioning. Yesterday a judge decided there was not enough evidence to hold him, so he was released today.
Just heard that Aruban radio is now reporting that the scent dogs picked up on Natalee's scent, not just any scent. who knows if this is true. At this point we have to be patient and wait and see.
Posted by: Gale | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:24 PM
If this turns out to be Natalee (which, in my heart I do not want it to be) this should be a beginning, not an ending. Natalee's death should not be totally in vain. Until now, I had not understood just how little freedom this supposedly independent nation has. The judges are actually appointed in Holland! Wow, you can't even judge yourselves! Doesn't sound like an independent nation to me. Sounds like a colony in everything but name only. If the Dutch are sending criminals to be judges then I hope and pray that Aruba, will from this tragic case, gain true independence and be able to elect their own judges from their own citizens. If VDS is implicated in this in anyway (as I am convinced he is), then he should be punished as should be those who aided and abetted him in covering up? If Natalee is indeed, found so near the VDS home and in an area that should have been searched first, but was not, What can that be but an obvious cover-up. We have the public testimony of the Dutch official himself bewailing, "How can I do this to my best friend's son?" That man should be prosecuted as an accomplice. And then the Dutch should leave that beautiful island to its rightful people. Just my two cents on this. I do not like cover-ups.

vander f:
Go to the newest update by Dan to confirm what I said about the Dutch media if you want. It's not only my opinion.
They even had to conduct a press conference to get the dutch media to back off. They were even getting into the water.

Sorry Charlene. Didn't mean to be rude. That info's been all over these posts for a week. He was held because he told the polis that he had seen the three boys drop Natalee off at the HI. He had lied as a favor to one of the Kalpoe brothers. They decided yesterday that he didn't have any other involvement (or that they didn't have evidence of such)so they let him go. LOL
Posted by: livesatthebeach | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:26 PM
Well, I am glad to see that the Aruban police are at least trying to help the search team from Texas. I saw on Greta one night that Jug Twitty's wish was that the LE would turn their information over to the search team, so that they would at least have some idea where to start.
Posted by: Leigh Ann | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:26 PM
thank you i knew that much! thats all the news stations say they dont say who he is how he is involved or anything! thats what i want to know!!thank you for being polite.
Posted by: Charlene | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:28 PM
Justin are you near or on the scene? Is it true its a differant pond than the other dumping ground body of water they showed some time back?
Posted by: max | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:30 PM
Tideroller, the only reason why Aruba isn't fully independent is because they don't want to be. They're just a small island and still need a lot of financial, governmental and technological assistance from the Netherlands. Can you think of a single 100,000 people town in the US that could function fully independently?
Posted by: Daniel | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:31 PM
Heard earlier today that the dj guy didn't lie for the boys. He overheard deepak on the cell phone and reported it to the police. And from what the news reported, it differed from what the brothers told the police. If anything, it appears the dj guy is a good guy.
Posted by: Shari | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 02:32 PM
Hadn't heard that. Thanks Shari.

I wonder if Joran has been told that there was a hit by the dogs and the quarry. If not they should tell him and watch his reactions after he is told.

@Tideroller,
The Arubans choose to have a 'status aparte' in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
They didn't want to be totally independent.
We asked all the Dutch Antilles (6 islands in all) what they want, even now some of the islands are pondering about their future, remind, Aruba is a VERY small Island.
They are free to choose.
Some Dutch even want to get rid of the Islands, especially Curacao, lots of trouble/drug traffiking etc.

Hopefloats - that is a good idea, see if he starts sweating.
