Just had a communication from Aruba - search dogs have gotten a "hit" in quarry near the Van der Sloot house, dive team being rounded up.
As posted yesterday, today's grids covered areas more accessible for the boy(s) working on a tight timeline.
I'm told there will be a press conferece at 1PM. Also, dogs said to not false alarm for non-human remains. Appears find is in very deep water of quarry, quarry was once drained and a corpse suspected to have been there for approximately ten years was discovered at that time.
Correction - quarry was low as result of drought when previous remains were discoverd. It was not drained.

Oh my, even though alot of us are praying for answers at it sounds like we may have some soon, I know we were all hopeing for a miracle that somehow Natalie would be found alive. I hope that whatever happens the truth will finally surface and the people involved will give up the true story once and for all. The Holloway family and many others involved need to know the truth.

Why was this place not searched in the first place?
Posted by: Ladonna | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 12:43 PM
Wasn't that FOX reporter just reporting from that rock quarry?
Posted by: Atljoie | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 12:44 PM
Dan just posted "Breaking Aruba" The dogs of Equusearch got a "hit" in the quarry behind the VDS home.
Posted by: philo | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 12:45 PM
I really hope it is not a false lead. I hope even if not natalee someone is found.

As awful as this sounds, it's better to finally know what happened than wonder - that family will be able to move on with their lives..or start to at least. Not knowing is worse than knowing.
Dan, what stations are going to be broadcasting? And will there be internet reports?

weighted down in the water
Posted by: beebee | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 12:47 PM
how far is this quarry from the jvs home. Why so close to home hmm
Posted by: tanya | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 12:48 PM
what is weighted down in the water beebee? were those word used?
Posted by: tanya | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 12:49 PM
Him, deep water close to the VDS home... seems like that would be a no brainer to have already checked out. Thank goodness this search team came to Aruba.

If this is so and she is found, justice will prevail and the Holloway and Twitty families will be able to grieve. As Beth has previously stated, there are some things worse than death.
Posted by: Hera | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 12:51 PM
this is really getting worse and worse.you know what would suck is ifthey didnt find her or what happened and just gave up like the jonbenet ramsey story.
Posted by: Charlene | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 12:53 PM
i think that joran took her home and did whatever to her and then the father did somethig really bad and that is why he is hiding. why would he risk his career and life for his son if he didnt do nothing that is REALLY wrong. And same with jorans friends. they probably did something really bad too or else the would be talking Nobody is talking and thats what makes me think that they are all involved
because if your innoent you tell what you do know not lie and point fingers and crap.they are all guilty of something.
Posted by: Charlene | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 12:56 PM
Dogs found a hit, how can they tell that in water? If so I hope it is her, sorry to say, but this family needs closier, FAST! I thought this in addition to JVDS , he has other siblings maybe they helped him, unless they are too young to drive, but perhaps capable to help him! Something to ponder without a doubt!!!!!!!!!!

This is breaking news and yet again, its here on your Web site, good job Dan. Why other media sources aren't on this right now is beyond me.
Posted by: Andrea | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 12:58 PM
Lets not jump to conclusion could be another person. maybe natalee not first
Posted by: tanya | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:00 PM
I pray they find something. I can bet that the Holloway Twitty family is anxious and nervous as heck. I pray they find her alive. My heart goes to Natalee and her family.
Posted by: Katherine | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:00 PM
I was just getting a chance to check in and see what the news of today is, Oh my! I wonder, What exactly does a "hit" mean?
Posted by: msdarth | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:01 PM
are there any shaft or sewers near there
Posted by: beebee | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:05 PM
good point tanya, maybe its one of joran's previous victims......then that would REALLY be a problem for jvs.....I am saying my prayers to NH family right now.
Posted by: msdarth | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:07 PM
Dam, I had hoped for better news.
But, knowing is definetly better.
Posted by: Bartholomew | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:10 PM
I remember the first time they said Natalee was dead (I can hardly bring myself to write that word), my heart sank. Even though, I know with my head that after nearly one month to the day (27th to the 29th) that she is not likely to be found alive, I still find myself hoping against hope. However, I do not want the Van der Sleaze family to go scot free for whatever they have done to her.
Posted by: tideroller | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:14 PM
I can say something about dogs that are trained to find dead bodies. When a body begins to enter advanced stages of decompasition, gases are released. It wouldn't matter if the body was under water because the gases would float up and out of the water area. These dogs have the ability to smell things 100,000 times more faint than you or I could smell. In fact, there are studies that show some dogs being able to smell the beginnings of prostate cancer from urine samples.
I'm sure the dogs have found a human but it could very well be another body besides Natalee. Although I would like for her to be alive, it would also be nice for the family to have closure if that possibility isn't available.
I can say this -- if that is Natalee, you can bet the farm that Joran is going down hard.

Gosh ..
I hope the nightmare will soon be over now...
Look allso at this link, so many cases about missing during a cruise out there,it's unbelievable and it makes me wonder if there aren't things that are going around there that don't have to see the light of day...
Posted by: ElissafanBelgium | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:20 PM
I can tell you that their is a story that she was taken back to his apartment. It is believed she was not cohearant enough to understand what was going on and believed she was being taken back to the hotel. Probably drugged. She had asked to go back the hotel directly form the Lighthouse. It is thought that never happened.

How do you know this? You live in Aruba?
Do you know his friends and family? No accusations towards you just would like to see your connection?
Posted by: Calli | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:26 PM
I hate to admit it but if the dogs did hit on the area and her body is found, then Beth can finally take her girl home. Not ever finding the body would be lifelong torture for Beth and the rest of Nat's family.
Posted by: Gale | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:27 PM
Not a word on MSM.
Posted by: Key West | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:29 PM
Last night one of the searchers from Texas remarked on Fox News that they felt certain they would found her body very soon. He was so sure of it that it puzzled me. Now I know why.
Posted by: TS | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:30 PM
you mean MSN?
Sorry you just keep reposting it like that..
Posted by: andrea | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:30 PM
Justin,
Do you know if Beth and the family have been alerted about the hit by the search dogs?
Posted by: Gale | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:31 PM
Calli,
It was felt that is what happened all along. But no proof. Natalees mother felt this from day one. The brothers mother is the one who stated she wanted to go back to the hotel from the lighthouse. That is what they told her. Only they say they took them joran and Natalee to the beach. She also confirmed that Natalee was not communicating with them at all. Again the "feeling" theere is that was drug related not from drinking
Posted by: Justin T | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:31 PM
Are these the dogs that were brought in from Texas? Was this quarry searched before? It seems like that would be an obvious place to look if they did,in fact, think that Natalee was brought back to Joran's apartment.
Posted by: Leigh Ann | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:32 PM
Gale,
no I don't. I would guess they were the first to know though. t
Posted by: Justin T | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:33 PM
Justin,
Do you know if Natalee's mom has been told about the possible hit by the search dogs? Thanks in advance.
Posted by: Gale | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:34 PM
Dan said the quarry is near the VDS home. That being the case, Beth was so close to her baby when she did the interview with Greta.
Posted by: Abel | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:36 PM
Sorry for the double post.

andrea,
MSM = main stream media
Posted by: jnicholas | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:39 PM
oh, i see sorry. I am just anxious for news...like everyone else
Posted by: andrea | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:40 PM
It was not searched before probably bc they don't really know how to handle cases like this. They are better at covering up than uncovering anything. They are only experienced in one thing, keeping everything quiet as to not expose themselves as to who and how they truly are.
They (Equusearch) told the American media to keep the cameras away while they search this "hit" (which they agreed to do) but yet, the Dutch media I hear have been getting all in their way.
Posted by: TexasGirl | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:41 PM
TexasGirl,
Any idea why the local media is able to be close to the site? Maybe their jealous of the American reporters. lol

How do you know this information? Are you reporter or are do you know the friends and family? Do you have a reliable source giving you this info? I would like to know this stuff too, but all I have is the media and websites?
Posted by: Calli | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:43 PM
Dutch media should know better only the authorities should be there. Actually the aruban police do not have the equipment these guys need so what can we expect?
Posted by: tanya | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:43 PM
Is this the quarry that Geraldo went to and questioned why it wasn't searched earlier?
Posted by: Shari | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:45 PM
I dont know but when they requested the cameras to not be there out of respect for the family as they search, they obviously respect that. Who wouldn't? I guess the Dutch media don't have the same respect.
Posted by: TexasGirl | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:45 PM
I am filled with so much sadness, and yet I am thankful that if they do find a body, Beth can have closure, and the people responsible can stand trial. How cruel and horrid for them to sit on this information all this time, and allow poor Natalie..(if this is indeed her) to advance to that stage. Those FBI divers should have been allowed to dive and inspect that quarry from the start. It was right behind their house! And the odd thing was that Natalee's Dad in an interview days ago stumbled upon this area...it was as though he sensed she was there.
Posted by: bamamom | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:46 PM
Gale: in the Netherlands, when the body of a crime victim is recovered, it is transported to the National Forensic Institute in The Hague - www.forensischinstituut.nl - for examination (cause of death, DNA-profiling, etc).
It is unlikely that Aruba has adequate facilities of its own for this type of examination. So, this is only my guess, but sadly if Natalee's body should be found, it's possible that it would first have to be transported to the Netherlands, and that the Holloways can only take their daughter home after the examinations have taken place.
Posted by: Daniel | Monday, June 27, 2005 at 01:46 PM
omg...just got online. Have we found our girl? This is so heartwrenching...to have to hope this 'hit' is Natalee. But knowing is better than not.
Btw...Justin. I agree...I think Natalee left Carlos and Charlie's thinking she was getting a ride bato the Holiday Inn. Poor little girl had no idea.
