Update: Brief communication from island - at least some in search party feel optimistic they will find Natalee soon - I'm unable to say why, or if just a feeling - hope to have more tonight.

EquuSearch head said to be arriving today, will review previous findings and team will set strategy for search when rest of group arrives.

Does anyone know if the VDS's own a boat? Or anyone of the boys in custody have access to a boat? Aside from the DJ who worked on the Tattoo. I have been to Aruba a couple of times and it would be very difficult to steal the Tattoo boat and noone notice. Plus the time constraints.

Also, it was interesting how Jug said the father and one of the kalpoe brothers kept telling Joran not to say anything. Maybe he had sex with her on the beach and left her there. Or told his friends about her being drunk on the beach alone and they took it from there. I find it very hard to believe they are all of a sudden after 3 weeks going to get new info out of these guys. And I find it harder to believe that if they did kill her it would take this long for a confession. I mean their kids. Its hard to believe they could hold up this long.

He paid Joran two grand to get some hootie from the clubs. Joran could use the money cos he owed Steve 'Lunatic' Croes. They all brought Natalee to Poppa Sloots home and he had his way with her. Natalee died as a result of this horror somewhere at monday morning. Joran called Steve to tell him he got the money and wanted to pay off his debt. Pappa Sloot had the chance to dump the body somewhere while the focus was on the others. Where, is still to be found out.

I have a hunch (all any of us really have) that eventually the Kalpoe brothers--maybe even Croes too--will be released, leaving Joran and Paulus VDS. But, with the way the Aruban police have bungled this investigation, and without a body, there may not be enough physical evidence to eventually try and convict these two. Isn't it true that it's tougher--if not impossible--in Aruba to convict without a body?

given dad VDS's legal background, i wouldn't be surprised if he has a lot of stamina in a police interrogation. he is likely trained in the type of techniques used and it will probably be harder to get answers out of him or to trick him. We might not get as many answers as we hope from this 6 hour session taking place right now...

What drives me crazy is that they didn't search the water immediately. It seems logical that gosh for bid something bad happened there not going to bury someone when there is such easy access to water. They actually reported sending FBI divers home because they didn't know where to search now 3 weeks later the people from TX are coming with sonar. It certainly didn't take sophisticated rocket science to sort out that PVDS was going to be arrested. The notion was "when." I don't want to steal any thunder from Minnesota Dad's prediction, but hey, this guy PVDS's been dirty and involved since day one. Serioulsy, let's look at the obvious:

When this guy was NOT allowed to see his son in jail you had to know it was coming down. This is partly why I get so steamed at this entire case. I firmly feel that if Natalee's mom and family had NOT gone to Aruba this thing would already be over. We would all be watching it on "Unsolved Mysteries." I also feel that the police chief has known about "relative" involvement since day one. Any one in a criminal justice system that let's a suspect just walk away to graduate high school without proper police procedure is as dirty as the rest of the lot.

My hope beyond all hope is that somewhere and somehow Nat's still alive. Call it whatever you will. Maybe wishful thinking. Statistically she doesn't have a chance vis-a-vie the 48 to 72 hour rule. However, we can make numbers do what we want them to do. I pray through my faith in God that something other than death has happened to her. Human bondage, or slavery would do, I wouldn't care if it was in Columbia or Thailand.

However the fact remains that there will be a short and swift end to these procedings. Personally I'd take the inside track on Minnesota Dad and say by Saturday. But with respect to juzwondering, the actual "resolution" of this matter will take months. Aruba wants their name out of the lights.

i am still wondering about the possibility that joran and friends raped and drugged natalee but the drug didn't wear off as quickly as they thought so they could not possibly get her back to the hotel without being noticed by cameras or people. so they called in the dad. he helped them take her somewhere where the drug could wear off and she could "appear" later -- which goes back to what the brothers were saying, she would appear in a crack house or something. she's alive somewhere. what do you think?

Wow, what a long name. There are many interrogation techniques...the difference is that in the military, which is where I had my experience, the rules are a tad bit different, if you know what i mean (wink wink). A good, seasoned interrogator will know exactly what questions to ask, sleep deprivation, lead the person believe that the "others" have already talked and incriminated him, etc etc. There is no doubt in my mind, as many have said, that if Mrs. Holloway Twitty did not immediately go there, none of this would probably have occured. I salute this lady and all mothers should fight so hard for their kids. All the hindsighters who question her morals or whatever else for allowing the trip should not throw stones least you live in glass homes. Pray for Natalee but expect the worst.

paulus paid his son and friends to get him a nice American girl for a sex tryst while the Mrs was away. Natalee was the unfortunate victim of Papa's desires after seeing her at the casino in Holiday Inn at the Texas Hold'em table. Natalee died as a result and Paulus made the boys cover for him since he used them to kidnap her.

Dad got hauled in! Maybe now sense and sensibility will prevail. If anyone can see the damage that has already been done it's the Elder Van Sloot; he's been a target of media hype. He already sees what it’s doing to his career, his island and ultimately his son. (Papa Sloot has been enduring it the longest). Maybe Mr. Sloot will come to his senses and confess to what happened and where Natalee is. I believe there's no capital punishment in Aruba, but then again, this is unique moment in their history. They are taking a good look at how they are seen in the world. Wonder if Alabama can have him extradited to the US for prosecution? Would set a precedent, as we would be judged by the same standards.

Parents tend to be noble like that....Joran might have done something or an accident might have happened and though the father wasn't there, he might just decide to 'save' his son and take the heat for the whole thing...then we'll never know what really happened.

Ok, really quickly I just want to remind everyone that the two VDS cars were impounded, and the house was searched. The boys have never mentioned taking Nat to JVDS house, and yet the place has been searched. Cars that no one has mentioned her being in have been searched.

Maybe she was in the house. Maybe JVDS snuck her in to have "alone" time. Papa VDS may have caught them, and since it is late--told Junior that he had to get up in the morning. Papa VDS may have VOLUNTEERED to take Nat back to HI. Something may have happened on the car ride (Papa may have decided to take advantage of NH while wifey is in Holland). Whatever it is...Junior thought Nat got back to HI safely.

Beth mentioned that JVDS wanted to "help find her." Papa told Junior to "say nothing." Junior didn't realize he was incriminating Papa, and so he talked to Beth and polis. Junior finds out later that Papa didn't get Nat home--and Junior can't tell anyone without them suspecting Papa.

Before the flames are hurled, just remember that it's only speculation. :)

The interview with former Ministry of Justice lawyer, Croes, reveals a good deal about Paulus van der Sloot. According to Attorney Croes, the arrest of Paulus is more in line with a "shaking of the bushes" or "embarrassment control" technique than anything of substance. In his opinion, the police in Aruba, with their horde of FBI assistants, have nothing. The four boys in custody, despite unrelenting interrogations, are unrattled. Clearly, the boys, minus a minor, cover-up lie in order to avoid implication, know little of the Holloway disappearance. The suspicion that Attorney Croes proffers is that in a few days the four kids in custody may be released for lack of evidence.

On the other hand, this Retired Detective Nicholaas has some interesting aspects of the case that, so far, have gone ignored: Natalee Holloway's friends and family. Given the negative, and down-right abusive, comments posted on this blog and uttered by the media, there should be little objection to reciprocating comments from the Aruban police.

We should not put too much emphasis on the ability of the FBI. From personal experience, let me assure you that a position like that would be misplaced. The Aruban police are more competent than the posts in this blog and the media accredit. We should allow the Aruban police to do their job.
