I think aside from the filibuster and Newsweak stuff, the other outrage I felt this week resulted from the White House press corpse (not a misspelling) being so confrontational in the wake of the Newsweak affair.
That the so-called freedom of the press comes at least with a modicum of responsibility seems completely lost on them. I see nothing wrong with any reasonable person, including the POTUS, through his spokesperson, pointing out to them Newsweak's culpability in the matter and the prudent step, should they opt to take it, of a little redemptive action.
Naturally, they won't do that. The MSM is gathered together like a pack of brain dead leftist lemmings intent on plunging themselves into a liberal sea, growing ever more distant from the majority of society in their thoughts, opinions and practices. Well, let them run and jump.
They, as well as a liberal democratic establishment now headed by Dean and H Reid must have a genuine self-destructive streak to carry on as they are in the face of election after election - and with the presence of new forms of media capable of calling their bluffs.
Given the way things are going, newspaper circulation will continue to falter, the networks won't recover from their comeuppance by Fox and talk radio and it will be a decade or more before the MSM can re-invent itself into something more palate-able to the average American.
But then maybe that isn't really a bad thing. They had their run.

My God Dan, did you not see the press conference?
The President's press secretary issued a strongly worded statement!!!
Do you have any idea how chilling that can be for the little girls in the MSM?
Next it will be the comfy chairs!!

Remember the epicene, tantrum-prone journalism students in college? I'm convinced they go into the job for pyschological and emotional reasons, among which may be some limitations or ambition which would exclude a job in government or teaching.
Where else can you have power without merit or effort but in journalism, or the various institutional hives subsidized by tax revenues. That is to say, every big and little agency with the mission of limiting human freedom, or educational institutions where the lash of conformity is brought onto every young back.
We need to view journalists with the same skepticism (and sometimes, loathing) brought to the expectation of corruption that we used to have for the ciphers and punks in legislatures and bureaucracies everywhere.
As a rule, they are not good people, they are not honest, they are not brave, they are not loyal and they are not decent. They're bottom feeders of all kinds, snouts in the mud that they carry from one place to another.
Blogs are a citizen's reaction to these pigs and scoundrels.

The MSM (at least TV) will eventually morph into pure entertainment news for fear of alienating any more of its shrinking audience. Get ready for puppy and car chase news up the ying-yang.

Nickie:
That's already happening on the network affiliates here in the northeast. Without a mill fire, a drug murder, a brawl at a high school basketball game, or a minority scholarship recipient, there's nothing left but editorializing and sappy kitten-saving.
Half of any local news broadcast is a droning complaint about pocket bikes, "cut" school budgets, SUV outrages, dangerous intersections and potholes. The reason is probably that the intelligence of the average viewer is too low to accomodate anything else.

I dont believe anything, including that latest Saddam crap, anymore. The media has self-destructed and they've lost ALL of my interest. And respect.
