WARRENTON, Georgia The bodies of two toddlers reported missing over the weekend were found Monday in a pond near their rural Georgia home, state investigators said.
In what is said to be a still ongoing investigation, the bodies of Nicole and Jonah Payne were discovered just a few hundred yards from their home in a sanitation pond. It is unclear if the children slipped in, or if foul play was involved.
Multiple polygraphs have been administered as part of the investigation, authorities are hesitant to discuss results, other than to say the investigation continues.
The pond had been searched during the weekend but nothing was discovered. Today a searcher noticed something just below the surface within a bed of algae - it was the body of young Nicole. Jonah's remains were then discovered just a few feet away.
The bodies have been taken to a state crime lab in Augusta for autopsy.
