We need these reminders. Our enemies are Islamists, which is simply a rationalized Culture of Death. Everything built upon it is window dressing, immaterial and irrelevant to the discussion of who we are fighting. They're people who dwell on the other side, and are not even explainable by references to the most militant Japanese or the most mystical of the Nazis.
This struggle is going to go on and on and on, with Europe the next major battleground. Right now we're in the current version of the Phony War, an analogue to the firefights in Europe in 1939. I don't even think it's begun yet. Iraq is a just a skirmish.
