Beautiful - Or Simply an Atrocity?

In a development which some conservative art critics are describing as "repugnant" and just one more example of how certain communities within America seem to have no reasonable boundaries when it comes to good taste, signed portraits of blogger Jeff of Beautiful Atrocities have begun turning up at certain fringe art galleries within California's Bay Area.

It is not so much the subject matter that has critics aghast, but rather the fact that the portraits are based upon the so-called "Velvet Elvis" genre of American painting. "We thought this kind of thing died out with the old South of long ago, " wrote freelance art critic Hans Fensterwald in the New York Times. "But apparently some who would pass themselves off as artists would now force us to confront this heinous and ugly episode from the past in American art. There is no other manner in which to describe this art except as hate-filled," Fensterwald wrote.

After repeated emails, apparently no spokesperson from the Beautiful Atrocities blog was available or up for comment as of press time for this report.

Err, ummm. Did you make this up? Is Fensterwald a real name? I flunked the MENSA test at Ace's blog, so I'm just a teensy bit skeptical. I know that's not Jeff. Since his blog is an oxymoron it would only stand to reason that that is not ugly enough to be Jeff.

Last year I bought a Velvet Jeff for 70 dollars at the Dassel County Flea Market. I now charge tourists 40 dollars a piece to view my Velvet Jeff. I think they assume that "Velvet Jeff" is a euphemism of some sort. Cretins. I am now a wealthy woman.
