Bob, over at Bob's Place links to a CNS piece that speaks to press coverage of the Bush administration and how the problem isn''t simply what they do write. The press yields significant influence by what they choose NOT to write, as well.
Karen Pittman discusses the Bush triumph in Afghanistan and contrasts the non- coverage by the Washington Post and other media versus the celebration of Clinton's failures as victories. Her observation of bias is on target and well said:

One of the oldest saws in Sociology 101 is that the choice of subject matter (to study) reveals a bias. Anyone who rolled out of a diploma mill knows it, which would include the duds from the high and low journalism schools who graviate to the MSM, local and national.
By failing to acknowledge this simple point, they betray not only the truth of the subject matter they present but the educations they received. It is, of course, possible, that most of them are so stupid and/or nihilistic that there isn't a first-class journalist in the bunch, so that we are being informed by idiots.
