Christmas must be over, at least for the NYT's - oh wait, better make that the "Holidays." Come to think of it, as a conservative I don't believe I've ever gotten much of a present from the Times. Fausta at The Bad Hair Blog takes them on as regards a Sunday story on Cuba - lots of background and details and a very good read.
As always, the left would want it both ways. They'd laud Cuba for their efforts against aids based upon the numbers, but the means and the tactics were unacceptable when they were implemented. And of course, they could never work in a free society. Fausta takes a look at the issue from several perspectives, including the notion that Cuba's reporting mechanisms are controlled more tightly than their sex trade.
United Nations officials who track AIDS say Cuba has done a better job than most countries at corralling the disease. "Certainly there has been an increase in AIDS, but it is not big, not like you see in the Dominican Republic, or Haiti, or in Puerto Rico," said Paloma Cuchi, who oversees the United Nations AIDS program in Latin America. "They have a very good medical infrastructure, and people have access to care and prevention."

Thank you Dan!
Again the NYT tells half the story
