Yahoo! News - Bush Takes Credit for Afghan Election
In yet one more pathetically framed story from the Aparatchik Press we find that Afghanistan's historic elections MAY HAVE been due, IN SOME PART, to a Bush Administration. Are they serious? I'm sure the Taliban regime was just chompin' at the bit to hold national elections but after witnessing the Florida debacle in 2000 that "stole" the elction from Gore, they were just waiting for the new touch screen voting machines to come in. Yeah, right!
And horror of horrors, "Bush mentioned nothing of political chaos that marred the elections" in his speech. My, isn't that so wrong of him. Millions of people are voting for the first time in what was arguably the most repressed regime in the world just short years ago, and the AP puts out tripe.
ST. LOUIS - President Bush (news - web sites) said Saturday that the voting in Afghanistan (news - web sites) was a remarkable achievement due in some part to his administration."A marvelous thing is happening in Afghanistan," Bush told a breakfast fund-raiser for local Republican candidates. "Freedom is powerful. Think about a society in which young girls couldn't go to school, and their mothers were whipped in the public square, and today they're holding a presidential election."
In his remarks, Bush mentioned nothing of political chaos that marred the elections. Later, White House press secretary Scott McClellan played down the difficulties and proclaimed it "a great day for the people of Afghanistan."
These idiots show no genuine appreciation for the amazing transformation taking place in Afghanistan. Not to mention Bush's leading role in making it happen and the tremendous sacrifice of men in arms from democratic countries on the ground under that leadership. Yes, there are many problems and will likely be more. But, for heaven's sake, America fought years of war to earn the right now being given to the people of Afghanistan. You'd almost think the Aparatchik Press didn't really like Democracy all that much, now wouldn't you?

"Bush mentioned nothing of political chaos that marred the elections".
What? The losers bitching about ink is political chaos? Virtually no terrorist
crap and 10 million people voting. We should be so lucky.
