Hmmm, I have some campaign advice for Kerry ... maybe I'll call Joe Lockhart. Think I'll get through? So, Burkett talks to Cleland, Barnes, a huge Kerry $ contributor is wrapped up in the same story and now this:

Lockhart said Mapes asked him the weekend before the story broke to call Burkett. "She basically said there's a guy who is being helpful on the story who wants to talk to you," Lockhart said, adding that it was common knowledge that CBS was working on a story raising questions about Bush's Guard service. Mapes told him there were some records "that might move the story forward. She didn't tell me what they said."

So, Mapes (from oh so impartial cBS) tells Lockhart what the guy has, that he's "moving the story forward," but Lockhart doesn't recall talking to Burkett about that issue? That might be good enough for Rather to believe but it sure ain't gonna fly on the Blogosphere.

The Kerry camp has their fingerprints all over this potentially criminal act. The only good thing in this for them is that it'll keep the attention off of Kerry's latest flip flop on Iraq.
