14 Year-Old Arizona Boy Babysitter Shoots Armed Home Intruder
Sounds like the perp may have learned something, too. First, a woman knocked at the door. The boy didn't recognize her, so he didn't open it. That's when the perp started to break in. The boy took his siblings upstairs, armed himself, then fired when he saw the man who entered the home had a gun.
(police officer) Holmes hailed the teen's actions and his parents for teaching the kids to never open the door to strangers.
"The police and indeed our community does not ever want to see a situation where a teenager of that age has to take a weapon to protect his family … but this young man did exactly what he should have done," he said. "I'm not sure he gave full thought about what he had to do. He just acted."
A 14-year-old Phoenix boy shot an intruder who broke into his home while brandishing a gun as the teenager watched his three younger siblings, police said.
The teen and his brothers and sisters were at home alone at their residence at 55th Avenue and Baseline when a woman rang the doorbell Friday. The teen didn't open the door because he didn't recognize her, Police Officer James Holmes said Saturday.
Soon after, the teen heard a bang on the door, rushed his siblings upstairs and got a handgun from his parent's bedroom. When he got to the top of the stairs, he saw a man breaking through the front door and point a gun at him.
The boy shot the 37-year-old man, who is in critical condition but expected to survive and be booked into jail.
Holmes said the suspect did not get a shot off. He declined to release his name until he is booked into jail.

All I will say is, “Nice shot kid.”
You insensitive douch
Bravo for the 14 year old. When your life depends on seconds the police are just minutes away. These kids are qlive thanks to Arizona’s second Amendment respecting gun laws.
Hate to be a buzz-kill, but…
Kinda have to wonder just WHY the perps were so insistent on breaking into that particular house, and why the male was brandishing a gun as he broke the door down. It’s almost like they had reason to believe there would be scads of money or drugs there…
Yes, it’s great this kid defended himself and his siblings from an obvious bad-guy; but I’m thinking there might be more to this story than we’re getting (so far).
I sure hope Joe Arpaio gives him a “Hero” award.
Too bad he didn’t kill the perp. Once the dirtbag gets out of the hospital he’ll be swarmed by scum of the earth trial lawyers to bring suit against this heroic kid and his family.
I guarantee you stories like this happen monthly in America, where firearms are purchased lawfully, the residents of the home are taught how to use the weapon in defense, and then the firearm does what it’s designed to do: save lives.
If it had been a family full of liberals, we’d have a story about three dead kids and some clueless parents suing the city for not being there to protect them.
Natural selection exists. Liberals are simply not selected for survival in this country. Too stupid to be allowed to breed, frankly.
Not shown: the dozens of stories where children find guns and shoot one another without meaning to. My best friend watched a classmate die in a gun accident. Didn’t make the 6 o’clock news.
Kinda wonder if the parents will be charged for keeping a firearm within reach of a minor.
Jason, if there were anything like that not involving gangbangers, the LSM wouldn’t shut up about it, and Obama and Holder wouldn’t have had to smuggle guns to Mexico to justify gun control.
@Jason,
Tragic, but irrelevant.
Jason, that hardly ever happens. Really. Every time it does happen it makes the headlines, and how many times is that?
Just check the FBI statistics and you’ll see how rare it is. It’s rarer than toddlers dying by drowning in buckets.
Well done…remember, the 2nd Amendment, “it’s for the children.”
Milhouse,
dont know where you live, but children accidentally shooting family members and friends is not that unusual here in KY, and not necessarily an FBI stat as far as I know it isn’t a fed crime. have not heard about too many toddlers dying in buckets. This kid did a smart thing, and great for him. if people have a right to own guns they should be held to a level of responsibility that is not always exhibited. that is all I ask.
A_Nonny_Mouse – True, there probably is more to the story – but it almost certainly has nothing to with the 14 year old protecting his siblings. His parents or other adults living there may be dirtbags but he is a hero, and in most countries would have been one of four victims of God knows what.
Jason – How about a citation to support your claim? The trope you mindlessly repeat is just that: a trope.
A_Nonny_Mouse, the “something more to the story” may simply be that the perp(s) knew the kids were home alone and wanted to take advantage of the situation. I suspect that he/they won’t try that again and this righteous defensive shooting may well serve as a cautionary tale to other potential perps out there. Chalk one up for the good guys here. The kid just has to learn to do a “double tap” next time to save the taxpayers some money.
Why would anyone automatically assume the criminals were after drugs or money, criminals will steal anything that isn’t tied down.Maybe the parents had a gun safe and gave the combination to the oldest child who was babysitting his younger siblings,it sounds to me like the parents prepared the boy for what could happen.Maybe the criminals were casing the house and knew the parents weren’t at home.I’m glad the criminal got what was coming to him and I hope he dies,I hope his bitch girlfriend gets caught up with too. This boy should be given a medal for shooting the scumbag criminal.Law abiding Americans are sick of what our country has become and we’re prepared to take it back at gunpoint from these douchebag liberals. If I were rich I’d give this boy a big reward.I just hope if I’m ever in this situation,I’ll kill the scumbag criminal loser with the first shot,I wouldn’t want to waste ammo on a criminal loser.
And you’re not being a buzz kill A_Nonny_Mouse,you’re just being a typical douchebag liberal, your comment doesn’t make any sense because liberals do not have the “common sense gene”,I guess that if a criminal scumbag broke into your home, you would try to “reason” with it,good luck.
Better hope the criminal isn’t black or we will hear the end of it.
I thought your resspnoe was great. I often find myself wondering about what one of these people would do if their family were in the situation they seem to think can’t happen to them.On New Years Eve someone tried to break into my neighbors house. They were unsuccessful but had they succeeded they would have had 10 minutes to do whatever they were willing to do since that is how long it took the cops to arrive. This issue alone makes me even more convinced that I cannot leave the protection of my family to the police. As good a job as they do, it simply isn’t enough when you have an angry motivated criminal who doesn’t care about the law.I enjoy this blog very much. It has become a daily read for me. Thanks!
