The proposed ban would affect virtually the entire menu of popular sugary drinks found in delis, fast-food franchises and even sports arenas, from energy drinks to pre-sweetened iced teas. The sale of any cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 fluid ounces — about the size of a medium coffee, and smaller than a common soda bottle — would be prohibited under the first-in-the-nation plan, which could take effect as soon as next March.
It may have been funny on TV, but this is ridiculous.

The Emergency Department staff confirmed that a specially trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) was on call and available at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center. The patient was told that she should go to that ER for treatment. The YWCA SANE program is a collaboration between the YWCA, Metro Area Law Enforcement, Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office, and three medical centers: Midwest Regional, INTEGRIS Southwest and INTEGRIS Baptist. While YWCA Hospital Advocates provide emotional support for victims, specially trained Volunteer Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners perform forensic examinations following sexual assault or rape. SANE’s are specially trained to properly collect, preserve and document evidence of sexual assault; all without re-traumatizing the victim during the extensive exams.”

The strawman of who is more qualified to administer a rape test aside, the ER doc at the hospital refused to provide emergency contraception to the victim based on the doctor’s “beliefs”. Did you know, Chucklespierre, that the effectiveness of emergency contraception diminishes dramatically if not provided almost immediately? I wonder, Chucklespierre, what other medical services you approve of doctors *not* providing because doing so will hurt the feelings of whatever imaginary sky fairy they *believe* in ….

CONCLUSION: The 72-hour cutoff for the Yuzpe regimen of emergency contraception appears needlessly restrictive. Women who request this therapy more than 72 hours after unprotected sex should be allowed to receive it, particularly if they decline postcoital insertion of a copper IUD and would otherwise have no options for reducing pregnancy risk.
