NYC’s Nancy, Nanny State Mayor Bloomberg Goes Soda Nazi: No Sugar For You!

Well, isn't that special.

The proposed ban would affect virtually the entire menu of popular sugary drinks found in delis, fast-food franchises and even sports arenas, from energy drinks to pre-sweetened iced teas. The sale of any cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 fluid ounces — about the size of a medium coffee, and smaller than a common soda bottle — would be prohibited under the first-in-the-nation plan, which could take effect as soon as next March.

It may have been funny on TV, but this is ridiculous.

NYC's new anthem, No Sugar Tonight. Geez….

The Guess Who, No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature" is a song by the Canadian rock band, The Guess Who. It was released on their 1970 album, American Woman, and was released on the B-Side of the "American Woman" single edited to remove the "New Mother Nature" section. The single was officially released as "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature" and peaked at #1 on the RPM magazine charts (3 weeks) and on the Billboard charts. In Cashbox, which at the time ranked sides independently, "No Sugar Tonight" reached #39.

Just another reason to stay the hell out of New York City.
A cool place to visit…with your large sodas…but you would NEVER want to live there.
    (Thar be crazy people…)

  2. Dean Esmay says:

Well that stuff really is bad for you, and not just because it makes you fat. But Bloomberg’s penchant for banning things that are bad for you rather than possibly-less-objectionable warnings seems rather extreme.

  3. Ragspierre says:

The Dumble Collectivist has its hair on fire over sound medical and police practice…
“The INTEGRIS Canadian Valley Hospital Emergency Department personnel wanted to ensure that the patient was examined and treated appropriately for rape as coordinated through the SANE program. The Emergency Department staff confirmed that a specially trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) was on call and available at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center. The patient was told that she should go to that ER for treatment. The YWCA SANE program is a collaboration between the YWCA, Metro Area Law Enforcement, Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office, and three medical centers: Midwest Regional, INTEGRIS Southwest and INTEGRIS Baptist. While YWCA Hospital Advocates provide emotional support for victims, specially trained Volunteer Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners perform forensic examinations following sexual assault or rape. SANE’s are specially trained to properly collect, preserve and document evidence of sexual assault; all without re-traumatizing the victim during the extensive exams.”
It is out of its hate-twisted Collectivist, moonbat “mind”.

  4. Humble Conservative says:

Good work, Chucklespierre; you’ve proven your ability to cut and paste from a self-serving press statement from the hospital! The strawman of who is more qualified to administer a rape test aside, the ER doc at the hospital refused to provide emergency contraception to the victim based on the doctor’s “beliefs”. Did you know, Chucklespierre, that the effectiveness of emergency contraception diminishes dramatically if not provided almost immediately? I wonder, Chucklespierre, what other medical services you approve of doctors *not* providing because doing so will hurt the feelings of whatever imaginary sky fairy they *believe* in ….

  5. Xiaoding says:

    Bloomberg is right.
As for the freedom thing, hey, where are MY freedoms? Screw that, I want to restrict everyones freedoms. To get freedom, you have to GIVE freedom, until this country learns it’s lesson, screw em. I hope America chokes on a boatload of stupid laws.

  6. Ragspierre says:

I wonder, Dumble Collectivist, whose conscience you have any respect for?
That ol’ totalitarian urge shor is strong, innit…???

  7. Ragspierre says:

“Did you know, Chucklespierre, that the effectiveness of emergency contraception diminishes dramatically if not provided almost immediately?”
    No. Put up a link.
    But…STFW…???
It would also potentially destroy evidence to do anything but get the victim to the SANE provider.
And the victim has SEVERAL abortion options, where police have a very limited window.
But you have your hair on fire, and are out of your mind, so…

  8. Ragspierre says:

CONCLUSION: The 72-hour cutoff for the Yuzpe regimen of emergency contraception appears needlessly restrictive. Women who request this therapy more than 72 hours after unprotected sex should be allowed to receive it, particularly if they decline postcoital insertion of a copper IUD and would otherwise have no options for reducing pregnancy risk.

    Huh.
    So, Dumble Collectivist, you are…
    1. a liar
    2. an out-of-control idiot
    3. both of the above
    Which would it be?
