Perry Statement On Palin, Also Gary Kirke Endorses Gov. Rick Perry for President
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today received the endorsement of Iowa business leader, entrepreneur and philanthropist Gary Kirke in his campaign for President.
Also, Perry's statement on Palin's decision.
“Sarah Palin is a good friend, a great American and a true patriot. I respect her decision and know she will continue to be a strong voice for conservative values and needed change in Washington.”

Palin, for her part, will have to do a lot to prove her viability to the base that supported her. I know. I was one of them. This is something she should have done a month ago.
What she did was clumsy and feckless; if there was any doubt in her mind than she should have announced back in the Spring when Huck got out. This was unfair to Pete Singleton and the rest of the 04P crowd.
Palin will have to do a lot, a lot, to earn my trust back. She’s lost it.

Frankly, I believe that Palin was doing just exactly what she said she was going to do, i.e., wait until the field was set and then determine whether, if a sufficiently conservative (and electable) choice wasn’t available, she would decide if she had any possibility of entering and winning.
If she didn’t believe that she could enter and win, at that time (and there was NO time BEFORE then when ANY poll gave her any possibility of winning in the general election) then she would not put herself or her family through the insanity which would follow her if she, nonetheless, entered.
I believed it possible that, when the field was fully formed, that there would be enough of a groundswell for Palin to convince her that she could get in and win the primaries – and, then, in the general election campaign – enough time to sway enough of the disaffected independents to win the general election.
She, clearly, doesn’t believe likewise. Nor, frankly, do many of the movers and shakers in the Republican side of the aisle. So, she’s out.
And, really. Just look at the stage in the debates. What do we have?
We have Bachmann – who is still in – still sucking up Republican campaign donor dollars and voter oxygen even though she has no possibility of winning. And Paul. Again. Sucking up dollars and oxygen with no possibility of winning. Newt – doing the same in between book signings with no possibility of winning. Huntsman? Same thing. Santorum? Same thing.
And a whole handful of others who didn’t make the stage, yet continue to suck up dollars (although very little oxygen).
Why? For a VP slot? For a slot in the cabinet? To set up for a later run? To continue to further their political ambitions, build war chests, tuck away favors for future use?
She could do that. From a POLITICAL PERSPECTIVE, announcing and getting in there has nothing but a positive outcome for her – if she made a good showing in the debates. (And, unlike Perry, she has a history of not only doing well in debates but of shining.) Money would flow her way. She could position herself for a later run or a VP slot – or whatever it is that the other future losers on the stage are angling for as they suck up the dollars and oxygen of the eventual legitimate candidates.
But, she didn’t.
Once again, she did what she thought to be the right thing, not for her political career, but for her country.
The MOST IMPORTANT THING is to BEAT OBAMA. And her ascending the stage without a legitimate (in her opinion) chance of not only winning the nomination, but the election, would be a disservice to her country.
What this country has done to this woman is breathtakingly despicable – from both sides of the aisle.
