On Advising Texas Governor Rick Perry

By
October 4, 2011

This strikes me as a rather empty bit of advice given Perry's rock problems, ones the Post now seems determined to seize upon in order to destroy his chances in 2012.

… he does need to address the issue and I do agree with her completely on that. The media won’t let it go until he does.

What is it Perry is supposed to do, exactly? I know, how about some sackcloth and ashes? What  a nice touch they would be! He can make the rounds of all the Sunday talk shows telling everyone and anyone who will listen, that he truly cares! Why, … he can even apologize for any and every racial slight, or woe that may have ever befallen this great country throughout what is, by and large, her glorious history, Southern and otherwise. Heck, he could even apologize to a political opportunist like Mitt Romney, who has shown yet again how despicable is his political judgment by trying to pile on.

Or, he could have taken another route entirely, not that I would profess to advise Perry, or anyone running, really. But, yes, he could have pulled up those cowboy boots we're all told he wears. He could have gone on TV and looked the camera right in the eye and said, this is the same old despicable garbage over a meaningless rock I probably couldn't tell you much of anything about, other than that I think it was painted over some long time ago. So, what's the point?

The country's economy is going to hell in a hand-basket. We have an out of touch, non-experienced executive in the White House who doesn't have the slightest damned clue how to get us out of it and it's getting so bad, people are so confused, or utterly clueless, they are taking to the streets, be it at a Tea Party, or in an "occupation" because they don't know which way to turn.

And I'm not here to talk about some silly gotdamned rock no one gives a damned about. I'm here to talk about what is right and what is wrong with America as things stand and what in hell I intend to do about it when I first sit down in the White House as an executive, something I have proven myself as over a long period of time. Now, what, exactly, is it, you want me on here to talk about? Because if it's just more nonsense, than I have better places to be and things to accomplish, thank you very much, sir or ma'am!

I suppose he might could do that – a leader might consider it, anyway. Or he can go along looking like a deer in the headlights as the Washington Post continues to mow him down. Some politicians become road kill, some don't. But successful ones tend to stay on offense and not take their eye off the ball, or waste their time doing next to nothing at all.

Let's not forget, for better, or worse, there is someone who has recently taken far more and much worse than Perry has yet to endure. And she's still standing as an individual and having an impact, even if she's not in the race, as some folks recently seemed intent on reminding us of to the point of childish obsession.

What I do know is that, if Perry allows himself to become paralyzed by this nonsense and some of his supporters start to hedge their bets, or looking for seemingly easy but silly alternatives, then they may as well stick a fork in Perry, because he's done. Funny, I always thought that when a Texan saddled up, it was because he, or she could ride. This one better get his ass, or his horse, or whatever, in gear and do it, or two weeks from now, it really isn't going to matter much any more.

  1. OldNuc says:

Thats pretty much how I see it also, the 14 day to destruct timer is running and piddling around is not going to stop it. Gov. Perry needs to go after the WaPo hard and now, not next week.

  2. Godzilla says:

Yeah, there’s no doubt that Mittens would have scheduled a press conference and milked it for all it was worth. Perry is definitely a different kind of hombre. I think he was blindsided by the antipathy displayed toward him over the instate tuition for children of illegal aliens. ‘Heartless’ was probably a PG euphemism standing in for a different epithet on his mind (he evidently is of the compassionate conservative mold when it comes to instate tuition). Though much of the attack coming from ‘of-course-you-build-a-fence Romney was political gamesmanship, I think Perry was genuinely taken aback by the resulting vitriol toward a policy which he thinks is a good and just one. He probably has half a mind to metaphorically turn his rear-end toward the GOP/Tea Party as a whole, rip a good one at em, and go back to Texas. I don’t think he will, but I bet he’s at least sorry that he entered the race.

  3. Godzilla says:

The BS over the rock is not what’s going to do Perry in in the primaries.

  4. sickofrinos says:

The deer in the headlights look, goes for most of the people on the debate stage.
    Including the msm lowlifes.
If we had a leader on the right that could unite all the factions of conservatism, we could probably win big.
With people like mittens- Who will vote?

  5. Myrna McC says:

This ‘rock’ thing is getting out of hand! A rock! Racist. This is so funny…
All of a sudden, the lowly rock- inanimate, lazy bum who just lays there forever, takes punishment from extreme weather without moving a… moving a… nothing part, until you move them that is, IS center stage ROCK STAR!
Is this really how bored we are, how devoid of excitement our lives are? An inanimate ROCK! is center-stage in a presidential campaign! Forget the economy, forget Solyndra-White House money laundering, forget the debt ceiling debate, forget all the Constitutional violations by this admin that go on unchallenged by eunuched Congress, forget the war in Afghan where my 20-year old son is going as a Medic in July ’12, and his buddies and squad leaders dying ahead of his arrival, soldiers are dying in ever higher and higher numbers and we don’t talk nor hear about them, we have left them behind, they had taken a backseat to politics and campaigning… my God!
…are the GOP candidates even talking about any of these at all? No. Sniping at each other, yes. And before this week is over, a ROCK will be declared a round (not blunt) instrument a la David, to bring down a Goliath (supposed GOP frontrunner).
What in hel* is the public to do with this thing? Yes, tune out, that’s what! GOP better smart up fast.. obama is not lying down, he’s lying left and right, inciting violence and covering with a diversion headed by Van Jones called “occupy…” whatever, aka ‘flash mob’.
Aiyayay!! people— wake up!!! (This is frustrating! ;(
BTW- this rail is not directed at you– nah. Cuz- Thanks for mentioning my ‘non-candidate’ fave!

  6. sickofrinos says:

When perry collapses, christie gets in.
mittens is done, leaving Cain and Palin for the conservatives to decide upon.

  7. BR says:

I don’t see Perry collapsing. Some of the more frantic fulminators seem to be swaying with whatever wind is prevailing that day. As pointed out at 1:52- despite all the MSM histrionics and noise, this “rock” thing is a left wing lollapalooza, not a serious issue for Republican primary voters. Still, I wouldn’t mind seeing Bolton/Palin for 2012.

  8. TexasMom2012 says:

I doubt Perry will collapse especially after his fellow Texas Democrats have come out in support of Perry. This story full of 24 unnamed sources and not a single on the record source stinks to high heaven a la Dan Rather style reporting. Better it came out now rather than a year from now, I think someone pulled the trigger way too soon. Perry has also appointed fellow black Texans to high positions like Chief Justice and has prominent black friends. I think Texas may be quite different than the deep South in that when I was being raised in the 60s and 70s, I never heard the Nword used as a derogatory. My grandfather (born 1903) used the term to mention his friend that lived down the street, this was a close friend that Papaw would never denigrate. The term has become poison so it is no longer used except for some strange reason solely by black people.
About the tuition, the law passed is extremely limited in its scope. Less than 1% are eligible. Perry should have made the point that due to lack of enforcement by the federal government, we have provided education for these children for a minimum of three years and it is extremely unlikely that the federal government will ever deport these kids. Therefore, it is to Texas advantage to provide instate tuition to residents who will remain here in order to save the state tax expenditures in the future. A college education will make these kids much less likely to require many subsidies such as food stamps or Medicaid or ADFIC. In short, we are stuck with these kids, have already subsidized there K-12 education for a minimum of three years and want them to be net tax revenue generators. This is our best option due to the failure of the federal government to help protect our border and the failure to enforce federal immigration statutes.

  9. TexasMom2012 says:

“their” not “there” K-12 education. Sorry cannot tolerate poor grammar, especially from myself!

  10. Fred Beloit says:

I choke up when people call me this, and it is not my fault, I am…sob…what insensitive people call a Yank. When I attended The Infantry School at Fort Benning, GA, I was fearful I would be called…aheh…a cracker. Today, I am afraid I will be labeled a senior, a geezer, and, worst of all, perhaps, a redneck or simply a southerner. The shame of it all. Oh Lord, lift this heavy burden from offen my shoulders, lest I succumb from embarrassment.
What a load of crap. I will NOT buy into it.

  11. Ragspierre says:

Both Mittens and Cain COULD have done a world of good toward putting the kibosh on the racer BS the Mushroom Media clubs TEA Party people and Conservatives with constantly.
They blew it. And they blew it to take a cheap shot at knocking Perry out of the primary.
    What a shame.

  12. USA American says:

If Perry would just stand up and own the fact that racism is inherent to Teahadism, he would wrap up the GOP nomination with no problem. What’s the big deal?

  13. apodoca says:

Perry could’ve done a whole world of good by being a straight shootin’ talk ere as he claims to be. Riehl’s suggestion is brilliant. As it is, Perry’s looking like all hat no cattle.

  14. apodoca says:

Perry could have ended this by being a straight shootin’ talker, just like he claims to be. He could’ve done as Riehl suggested, and it would’ve been egg on WaPo. Instead, Perry’s looking like all hat, no cattle.

Perry at least has gotten out the promise “Bernanke will not be reappointed”.
Too little, way too late. Promise no blindfold, no cigarette, no last meal for Holder, Bernanke and Il Douche and maybe we’ll consider you.
S&P blew right past 1120 support level yesterday and 1080 support this AM.
We may not get our chance to see a public, official dispatch of these, our servants.

  16. Ragspierre says:

Racism is alive and well, and totally approved of it the right races practice it.
It’s time to say that loud and proud.
Bad Luck Barry can sit in a racist church, marinating with Shellie in virulent hate-indoctrination and anti-Americanism, and offer the “I didn’t inhale” defense…and get away with it.
He can march with the New Black Panthers, which is at least equal to marching with skin-heads for a white pol, and where is the outrage?
Oh, yeah…we are all talking about a NOT-STORY that has no connection whatsoever to the guy running for office…all on defense.

  17. Ragspierre says:

And, speaking of racism, and the open, condoned practice thereof…

Eric Holder has been caught in a lie regarding Fast & Furious, which has killed Mexicans and US LEOs alike, showing both his regard for human life and for law.
Time for special prosecutors. (See the “s”?)

  18. Susan says:

Every Republican candidate must realize the lamestream media (Fox News included) will create their own stories to drive their own agenda
Both Perry and Cain fell into an obvious trap-both should have known that the Race Card would be used and then plan accordingly.
Perfectly predicitable that Chris Wallace would pick up Wapo’s Not-Story Story about Perry’s rock and use it to race-bait Herman Cain.
At this point, and after all the evidence before them if any Republican candidate easily falls into an obvious trap then they cannot be considered a ‘serious candidate’.

  19. gary gulrud says:

So Christie is wisely not running in pursuit of 25%. When you know who ‘decides’ we’ll see where the 20% undecideds break.
I say Urkel drops before September to take a pardon. Announcement from a secure location in sub-Sahel Afrique.

  20. USA American says:

Poor Clownselor, still trying to play the race card on the Kenyan. “New Black Panthers” were standing in the same zip code as the Kenyan! Ergo, ipso facto, per se, oogly boogly, Obama is a New Black Panther! Obama heard someone say something that gave the Clownselor raging butt-hurt! Quick, someone get this on the news …. Oh wait, you mean this was talked about in 2008 and non-27%-ers STILL don’t give a sh*t?
Teabilly candidates to be the leader of the free world stood silent while white, Teabilly radicals cheered Rick Perry’s executions, screamed for letting the uninsured die, and booed an active-duty soldier serving in Iraq – yet the Clownselor has no problem with this. Because those are members of HIS tribe – the Borg Collective. Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin can associate with all kinds of radical hate preachers, and you get a big “meh” from the Clownselor. Borg Collective. Obama stands/sits in the vicinity of black people who hurt the Clownselor’s feelings, and it’s the crime of the century. Also, too, Robert Byrd was in the KKK in the 30s.
    Funny. How. That. Works.

  21. gary gulrud says:

WaPo poll of adults–remembering there is a 15 point enthusiasm gap–55% any breathing alternative, 37% Dog Meat, Shinola Spokesmodel.

  22. Ragspierre says:

Hate + stupid ad hominem + projection + lies = UAssMORON posts
    Funny. How. That. Works.
You poor, stupid, lying, evil, Collectivist harpy(tm).

  23. Ragspierre says:

Picture this. It’s 1999. There’s an event for something significant and then-candidate George W. Bush is attending along with a few members of the KKK. Bush & the KKK members are together behind the podium. The first speaker is a KKK leader, then some others, and finally Bush. Also, the KKK arrived there to make it known they endorse George Bush. A photo shows the KKK and George Bush appearing to leave the event together.

I searched “Obama New Black Panther Party” and see no results featuring the MSM. I search “Rick Perry Rock” and I see results from ABC News, Washington Post, New York Times, Daily Mail, The Huffington Post, MSNBC, and CNN. Why to the MSM is a presidential candidate’s father COVERING UP A RACIAL SLUR BECAUSE IT WAS OFFENSIVE more important than proof of President Obama’s radical connections?
    –Big Journalism
    Yep.

  24. Drago says:

Why hasn’t the Dem controlled Senate passed li’l obambi’s jobs bill yet?
    Are they racists?
    LOL

  25. Drago says:

USA moron: “”New Black Panthers” were standing in the same zip code as the Kenyan!”
    LOL!
How about “standing right smack dab in the middle of them” and joining them in a march?
    LOL!!

Poor USA moron. Them “intertubes” sure are a headache, aren’t they?
    LOL!!

  26. USA American says:

Haha, an opinion piece from Gateway Pundit. The dummest guy on the internet. Present company excepted, of course. Seems like in addition to giving free advice to Gov. Goodhair, you patriots should advice Gov. Kaisch on how to not be so f*cking obvious. Teabillies hate government employees and their befits, except when they are the ones receiving them. Imagine our surprise:
///Think tank Innovation Ohio has released some stats about that state’s governor, John Kasich, who is trying to kill collective bargaining with a bill called SB 5 and who recently slashed funding to services people sort of need, like schools and firefighting.
But the Ohio legislature isn’t spreading the pain equally—namely, not among themselves. According to IO’s most recent report, Kasich took a raise of more than $10,000 over the last governor’s salary, bringing his pay to $148,165. And exempted the salary from the SB 5 provision that cuts automatic annual raises for other public employees. And lied about how much he pays his staff, whose senior members make $110,000. Also unaffected by the recent massive budget cuts is the Ohio General Assembly’s minimum salary of $60K—for a part-time job in a state where the average worker makes $40K.///
    http://motherjones.com/rights-stuff/2011/10/ohio-kasich-governor-raise-cuts
You see, that’s actual reporting of actual, verifiable facts. Which you will ignore.

  27. USA American says:

Poor Clownselor. The evil librul media isn’t reporting on the tedium that gives him a constant case of teh butt-hurt. This is proof of something!!

  28. Drago says:

USA moron: “You see, that’s actual reporting of actual, verifiable facts.”
    LOL!!
Do actual pictures of our delicate teleprompter in chief speaking at the same podium as his radical New Black Panther party rally constitute “actual verifiable facts”?
    LOL!!
    Not according to USA moron!!
According to USA moron, speaking at a New Black Panther party rally and marching with them constitutes “being in the same zip code”….
    LOL!!
You. Can’t. Make. This. Stuff. Up!!
Hey moron, so remind us again: how many guns did obambi provide to the drug cartels and how many people were murdered with those guns?
Speaking of morons, we now know that the following question totally flummoxed one of obambi’s “best and brightest” Eric Holder: “When did you first learn about “Fast and Furious”?”
    LOL!
    Holder “misunderstood” the question!!
    LOL!!
    How could he not?
It’s like, really “confusin’” and stuff.
(see what I did there? I dropped my “g”, just like obambi does when he (according to Harry Reid), drops into his “black” voice!!!
    LOL!!

  29. Drago says:

Hey, how do I get a “Senior Staff” position for one obambi’s many, many, many vacations?
    LOL!
    You know.
    Just like obambi’s daughters did!!
    Too funny.
But now that I think about it, is it really a surprise that obambi listed his daughters as “Senior Staff”?
I mean, have you been watching the actual, verifiable, real-world economic performance of this moron administration?
If you have been, then it all makes perfect sense!!

  30. Drago says:

I couldn’t help but notice that USA moron was unable/unwilling to address why dreary harry reid hasn’t passed obambi’s really super-duper-duper important jobs bill.
    LOL!!
    I wonder why that is?
    LOL!!
Don’t worry USA moron, the independents have noticed it.
    Poor li’l obambi.
A 60′s marxist working off of the wrong script.
But only by a couple of decades!!
    LOL!!

  31. Drago says:

Why is it that everytime obambi speaks, the markets tank?
Gee, it’s almost as if the “actual and verifiable” real world doesn’t like obambi’s warmed over adolescent policies.
But thats only bacause the individual choices made everyday by billions of people are racist and designed to make obambi look bad…….

  32. Ragspierre says:

“The evil librul media isn’t reporting…”
Which you lied about in a previous post.
But then, each of your posts feature lies. Many of which you aren’t even sharp enough to have created. Your Moonbattery Commanders just break you over and fill you up. And you NEVER research their crap, so you are FUN to punk.
    Over and over and over…
    Typical Collectivist.

  33. Ragspierre says:

Shorter UAssMORON on Ohio: “This is what democracy looks like. @#%$*&!!!!%#%$ democracy.”
    And, for perspective…
    Innovation Ohio will:
Deploy an army of policy experts, academics, and practitioners into policy debates so that the progressive voice is heard and middle class values and interests are heeded.
Generate and distribute thoughtful, real time policy analysis and commentary to the media, opinion leaders, elected officials, stakeholders and the general public.
Ensure that reckless and counterproductive policies and proposals do not
    go unchallenged.
Offer alternative policies that promote economic opportunity for all Ohioans and act as a policy and research hub for the progressive movement in our state.
In other words, another Collectivist gear in the Lie-0-tron.

  34. Reggie1971 says:

    Perry’s problem isn’t in-state tuition. It isn’t social security. It isn’t vaccines.
The problem is that he isn’t prepared. Remember the question on global warming? Not exactly an obscure issue, is it? He gave a fumbling extemperaneous answer to a question that a highschool debator would have been better prepared for.
His entire campaign is….’look what I did in Texas’. OK, now what do you want to do as President? And it’s not as if Texas was a liberal s–thole that he changed through pushing transformative policies. Last I checked, in the polls in Texas he is UNDERWATER. He is not terribly popular in a state he has been governor of for ten years. Consider that. Maybe people consider him to be a steward and not much else.

  35. Ragspierre says:

Cite to your polls, please, troll.

  36. Fred Beloit says:

Reg: “He[Perry] is not terribly popular in a state he has been governor of for ten years.”
Oh Lord! He has been elected and in office for ten years, but he is not “terribly” popular? What does the word terribly mean in this context one wonders?

  37. Ragspierre says:

Yeah, Fred, and he’s held state-wide office longer than that.
Reggie’s poll was a PPP confection designed to undermine Perry nationally. PPP, as we know, CAN produce polls that range from bogus to valid. This one must have sampled from the Austin area around UT.
