"Mummy wanted a girl. At least one woman who didn't want a boy," we wrote our imail correspondent in high dudgeon in response to this bit of conventional wisdom that stuck in our craw this afternoon:

She: YET … for whatever reason, everbody wants a BOY!

We: In some cultures like Chinese, it apparently has to do with money … inheritance and such … course where does that come from? And where does it lead? [Not enough women for the men, not enough offspring to replace the old folks. Can you say Eurabia?]

She: Dowry is BIG, but … I feel blessed to have sons. I never had to go shopping at the MALL!!!

We were discussing, of course, the latest bit of news from our friends on the genome side of the aisle about a new, relatively inexpensive lab test that tells you the sex of your prospective offspring before the life force ever has a chance to breathe free. There is something so wrong about playing God with that information, in our view. You're a married couple wanting a child, and you bypass nature's way to use modrin science to choose? So many unsavory things come tumbling out …

    My brother wants a girl.
I think that a lot of the bias towards boys in the west, is less about mysoginy, than an inherent fear of many parents having to deal with a girls price, yes girls are more expensive, and a girls adolescent sexuality.

  2. Ragspierre says:

Had both. Would not throw any of them back…

  3. LauderdaleVet says:

Why stop at just selecting a sex? What if you could pay extra to ensure your child was gifted with a high IQ, a better immune system, an even temperament? What if it didn’t involve terminating a pregnancy or modifying genes, but simply screening the best combination of a potential sperm and egg?
At what point does it cross the line into “playing God”?

For myself, any time you consider killing…regardless of how clinically you describe it (i.e., “selection” or “reduction”).
As to the other questions, what do you think we do when choosing someone to have a family with? And we do it in ways we are seldom even aware of…part of our wiring.

  5. Ragspierre says:

“You have to pinch yourself – a Marxisant radical who all his life has been mentored by, sat at the feet of, worshipped with, befriended, endorsed the philosophy of, funded and been in turn funded, politically promoted and supported by a nexus comprising black power anti-white racists, Jew-haters, revolutionary Marxists, unrepentant former terrorists and Chicago mobsters, is on the verge of becoming President of the United States. And apparently it’s considered impolite to say so.”

I am *almost* curious enough to learn NOW’s position on gender screening. Rush, many years ago, said that the gay community would become actively pro-life if such a test were available for homosexuality.

  7. Ragspierre says:

    Oh, my…
“The majority of economists surveyed by the National Association for Business Economics believe that the federal deficit should be reduced only or primarily through spending cuts.
The survey out Monday found that 56 percent of the NABE members surveyed felt that way, while 37 percent said they favor equal parts spending cuts and tax increases. The remaining 7 percent believe it should be done only or mostly through tax increases.
As for how to reduce the deficit, nearly 40 percent said the best way would be to contain Medicare and Medicaid costs. Nearly a quarter recommended overhauling the tax system and simplifying tax rates and exemptions. About 15 percent said the government should enact tough spending caps and cut discretionary spending.”

There’s ANOTHER moonbat lie, shot to hell…

  8. Xiaoding says:

Whats wrong with playing God? Just another tool for us to use.

  9. Ragspierre says:

Genocide, forced lobotomies, and eugenics are tools, too, dingy.
    Jeeeesh…

  10. how does it cross the point as to play god???

  11. David says:

As a father of 6 girls and 2 boys, when I look back on the Pre-child days, neither my wife nor I focused on boy or girl. What we wanted was healthy, boy or girl. Obviously we got both…and thankfully all of them healthy. In retropesct, having already shelled out for 3 weddings with 3 more yet to go, 8 boys may have been cheaper.

  12. Ragspierre says:

David, I taught mine to elope…

  13. Xiaoding says:

“Genocide, forced lobotomies, and eugenics are tools, too, dingy.
    Jeeeesh…”
Sloppy thinking. Again, what’s wrong with playing God? Isn’t it God who gives us this power? The consideration, is to use it properly.
I will give you more credit, if you refuse the painkiller next time you get a tooth drilled, or get surgery. Don’t want to play God, right?, Oh, but thats DIFFERENT!

  14. Ragspierre says:

dingy, you are earning the reputation of The Face-palm Kid…

  15. Xiaoding says:

I’m waiting for your objection to the use of nuclear weapons in Japan, as that was obviously playing God. God actually destroyed two cities in the bible, right?
Speaking of playing God, when is the last time you turned down antibiotics? Didn’t God want you to die?
