Dreaming of a “nice moment for the country,” Howard Kurtz misses the scoop

Rush caller former Navy Seal Greg says "I believe that President Obama's hand was forced in [assaulting Osama's compound], and this is just a crass, political decision. When I hear people say that this took courage, I just believe he was absolutely forced into doing this … I assure you the information would have been leaked prior to the election cycle, and he would have had to have dealt with that, and frankly, if that came to knowledge late in the election cycle, our next president would be either Hillary Clinton or whoever the Republicans run." Everybody on both sides of the aisle has an opinion about it.

"Bush declines Obama invitation to visit Ground Zero with him," twittered Howard Kurtz this evening, more in sorrow than in anger:

I wish he'd accepted. Would have been a nice moment for the country

"Wow," we twittered back. A "nice moment for the country"? Gak. We ourselves had been on alert for the JournoList spin machine to go into high gear crediting the President and discrediting his predecessor the moment news broke that our guys had bagged Osama bin Laden over there on Sunday …

Caught the interview on Rush’s show which essentially confirmed the Daily Mail story that Wiki had leaked Al Libi’s residence in Abottabad. The officer had been a Seal from the ’70s to just prior to 9/11 but remained ‘in the business’.
The POTUS is now Puppet-in-Chief, the big calls are all being relayed by Daley from donors. Not that they can save the Pretendency but are determined to salvage the brand itself.
Markets expect the momentum in oil to carry the price to $220, the Fed is just 2 months from testing the bond vigilantes and spiking Treasury prices, and the dollar continues to slip toward freefall. Chinese equity markets took a bath today.

  2. astonerii says:

Yeah, probably go about as well as the Supreme Court Justices at the State of the Union Address, or maybe Paul Ryan at a financial news conference, or any other person he has invited to an event to chastise while they are forced to sit there and shut the hell up.

  3. mark l. says:

this obama victory lap is starting to turn into dead weight.
i wonder if he was given a plastic gun and hoslter to wear, while the wh watched from the situation room.
the release of the photos comes within hours of obama going to the wtc site.
photos will come out wednesday night, as obama speaks at wtc on thursday. or, possibly, the photos come out later on thursday, so the viewers who are teased with the release will have to sit and watch obama j*cking off on the american flag.

  4. mark l. says:

how long are you going to wave the flag, barfo?
    the cognitive dissonance…
how much credit ‘for bush’ in getting zarqawi, saddam, and ksm?
you show me one of your posts which contains your exuberance, contemporary to the event.
if you don’t have, as I’m sure you don’t have one, then you can direct me to a liberal site which celebrated the passing/capture of any of the above named three.
in all honesty, i give obama the same amount of credit that I gave bush, during the above three. forgive me if i use the news as cornerstone of refelction, and not obama’s attempt to climb above 50% approval.
there is no cognitive dissonance among my feeling towards the american people, my feeling towards ubl. to that extent, i am happy for obama, assuming of course that he is an american, or at least, pretends to be.

  5. mark l. says:

in my reflection, my sympathy also goes out to the families who have not been given the justice they deserve.
there were 189 americans on board pan-am flight 103, out of lockerbie.
the obama admin participated in the compassionate release of the man who planted the bomb.
if obama gets credit for ubl, shouldn’t he bear some responsiblity for the release of Abdelbaset al-Megrahi?
my taste for vengance is still quite active. no chance, and i do mean ‘no chance’ obama has a similar operation to exact the vengance due.
btw, this is a better example of cognitive dissonance. a case where “your indoctrination has made it impossible” to explain away the megrahi release, being consitent with the ubl killing.
    please…make the distinction.

  6. mark l. says:

my initial rxn was to consider the families of 9/11…
for the most part, it has been somber and sanguine.
if you could manage to roll out some dem supporters, who are family to the victims of 9/11, and get them to dance a ‘happy dance’ for me, as they sing and praise the glory of obama, so that i can in turn feel a sense of adulation towards him…
you are, in fact, are a rather poor substitute for the above scenario.
please…find me the joy directed at the president for ‘his’ actions. i tend to think we went in on this as a country, and i get as much credit as obama.
if you could convince me that obama was essential…
but if the wh could have, they already would have.
i suppose i am pleased that the one person i know, who could have screwed it up, obama, didn’t make a doody in his pants.

  7. mark l. says:

i suppose the jersey girls aren’t doing anything…
you could go drum up some faux glory for obama if they’ll read the script for you, as they did during the 9/11 commission.

  8. mark l. says:

“What would you have him do, declare war of the U.K.?”
rarely does an opportunity to correct a political mistake occur. forget war with the UK, as we are currently at war with libya. we just killed qadaffi’s son…
obama could do himself a world of good to find a guy that isn’t even in hiding, and flatten his house.
bonus points for double taps, with pics.

  9. mark l. says:

“I think the fringe right is going to blow a gasket over Obama’s triumph if they can’t come to terms with it.”
    really?
*thus far, they’ve been vindicated on the fact that torture works, see leon pannetta.
*the recent polls confirm my sentiments that obama deserves little job approval consideration for a small deed, in the face of a weakening economy.
by the slight aggitation that my opinions seem to cause you, concerned as you are about ‘my’ feelings, i get the sense that i am conversing with someone who is trying to clean up 10 gallons of ‘flop sweat’ with a sheryl crow size piece of toilet paper. it is not helping that you are simultaneously wetting yourself.
and the whole concern over my feelings…
it is one thing to have a psycho girlfriend, asking ‘why don’t you love me’, but you fall into the category of being a friend of the psycho girlfriend…
    ‘why won’t you love obama?’
    you really deserve each other.
i give obama little credit for the act. he was a non-essential entity. waterboarding was an essential element, making bush ‘essential’ to this day. it’s my opinion, and i’m entitled to it. what bugs you, in reading the poll flop, is that most americans share this sentiment.
    go whine to them.

  10. mark l. says:

    one larger point…
the libs own this pr failure. 10 years after 9/11, after waging a ‘private’ war against people who honestly did feel patriotic in riducling them, diminishing the crediblity of the institutions that carried out the mission, and criticizing the president for ‘wrapping himself in the american flag’, that they’d believe they could tie themselves to 9/11 and try and wrap bambi in the same flag…
this wtc speech is going to be so tone deaf, even blue dogs run away.
    epic failure, coming soon.

  11. Susie Q says:

You indoctrination has made it impossible for you to act like a normal human being and offer Obama the gracious congratulations he is due.
The cognitive dissonance you are experiencing is the result.
    Posted by: barfo
What the hell would you know about acting like a normal human being, you vile piece of crap? You don’t even have the decency to apologize for posting a link to a picture of Santorum’s family, and laughing about his Down’s child. And, don’t try to defend your assinie garbage by saying all you were doing was posting a pic of a concession speech. Why would your comment in reply to Marks’ question of whether the photo was real be, “He he”? That’s laughing, isn’t it? You knew Mark didn’t know that was a Down’s child, but you thought it was funny, didn’t you?
That is a precious child, and you are nothing more than disgusting vermin. You could never be anywhere near as good and decent as she is. I hope you rot in hell.

  12. sickofrinos says:

barfo- too bad you were not forced to jump from the burning twin towers. I used to know people like you, but they have all gone back in the closet. Why are you not in Canada? Your obviously not American.

  13. Ragspierre says:

As I mentioned to Drago (who I think welcomed a new addition to his family yesterday),
I would have been more inclined to congratulated Obama (which I did and do for not screwing this up)…
had he not done such a complete job of doing it himself.
It is a VERY interesting little vignette that IMMEDIATELY after the event, we had trolls come here with talking points, aggressively DEMANDING shows of unconditional Obama love.
It is essentially a demand that we become like them…suspending critical thinking, and embracing the delusions.
Obama no more “got bin Laden” than FDR “got Yamamoto”.
We are at war. Thousands of people work tirelessly…some at risk of being prosecuted by these idiots in the Obama administration…to keep us safe. When they find a target, they deal with it. That is how war is waged.
Remember the SEALs this CIC prosecuted for punching a terrorist thug? Please DO remember.
Also, remember the GLARING hypocrisy at work here, as this Collectivist does his CRASS victory lap down at Ground Zero, a place he has not bothered to visit on his MANY trips to New York since LAST campaign.
barfo has a talent for forgetting reality, and for swallowing lodes of crap from the Collective. Let him.
Let the rest of us keep our memories bright. Despising what this Collectivist thug in a good suit ™ has done to the nation is not irrational. Irrational is pretending otherwise.
Not only is Obama defeatable, he HAS to be defeated.

  14. pesto says:

Mark my words, the Navy SEALS will regret participation in the operation. At some point, zero will throw them under the bus for political expediency, and barfbag will be volunteering to drive.

  15. Neo says:

Consider now the possibility of a release of a UBL “death” photo.
It has all the same procrastinating and indecision that were part of the original mission. I have to wonder if they think they can continue the “glow” by dragging it out with a promised “photo” that appears to always be “over the horizon” (like communism). They did exactly that with the “birthers,” so why not do a repeat ?
As for the sensitivities, doesn’t anybody think that killing him was insensitive enough. After screwing with the narrative, they now even have it looking like they shot down a defenseless UBL … like a mad dog. I don’t think the “he may have had a bomb under his clothes” story line is going to cut it.
If they really want UBL to be forgotten, let him go. Release the “death photo,” convincing those who can be convinced that UBL is dead, and close the bloody thing out. Instead, they have made a political calculation that they can bask in the glow of a killing, like a KKK mob after a lynching, and somehow show that they are “sensitive” by not releasing the bloody “photo.”
Bush should avoid this “post-lynching” party.

  16. A ‘nice moment’ like the one Obi gave Paul Ryan or the USSC at his SOTU?

  17. Rich Fader says:

Barry had one good day. Yay.
[golf clap and a rousing rendition of Tom Lehrer's "Fight Fiercely, Harvard"]

  18. Sissy Willis says:

When you start going wobbly, ask yourself what Andrew Breitbart would do.

  19. gary gulrud says:

“the fringe right is going to blow a gasket over Obama’s triumph”
Shrubs Saddam ‘Got him’ bounce of 13 lasted six weeks. OBL bounce was undermined the moment Brennan opened his piehole.
Average Ogabe bounce was 6. No picture, executed, Pakis notified us of compound 2009, Wikileaks released the intel a week prior,…Over and done by Monday AM.

  20. Osamasdead says:

Poor TeaTards, reduced to whining that we tortured our way to OBL. Too bad it’s not true.
The Commander in Chief, that’s Obama, ordered the US Military to fly a manned mission to OBL’s compound. As a result, OBL’s dead AND we captured a trove of data on Al Qaeda that may pay dividends for years. Obama could have used B2s. Or drones, but we didn’t know for sure OBL was there, there was a risk of collateral damage and we wouldn’t have captured any intelligence data.
Gee, I wonder what TeaTards would be saying if the mission had failed? Wonder if it would have been all Obama’s fault?See Jimmy Carter, Iran hostage rescue mission.
But you know what? If John McCain were president, OBL would still be alive cause he promised not to go into Pakistan to get him.

  21. Huey says:

I love how all these leftists (barfo and company) are suddenly all about assassinating foreign leaders now. No more “Cheney death squads” for them! No cries of how it violates international (and American) law to “target foreign leaders” (or executive orders either). How, suddenly, they’re fans of “torture.” How they love inserting troops into countries where we not only have no direct national interest, but have no national interest whatsoever.
Barfo (and anyone else who is either brain-dead or brain-washed): The reason (and ONLY reason) Obama authorized the killing (if he did) is because, had he not, it WOULD HAVE COME OUT IN THE 2012 ELECTIONS.
And, if it had come out in the 2012 elections that we had OBL in our sights and did nothing, there would be a sufficient amount of even Demorats who would defect – either in a primary or in the general election – that Obama couldn’t be elected dog catcher.
Anyone who thinks differently simply hasn’t been paying attention.

  22. Baraka says:

I love how barfo AKA osamaisdead are all for fighting islam now that a dem is the boss.

  23. Osamasdead says:

Were you “paying attention” in Oct., 2008 when Obama said:
And if we have Osama bin Laden in our sights and the Pakistani government is unable or unwilling to take them out, then I think that we have to act, and we will take them out.
We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority.

  24. Baraka says:

BTW osamaisdead please go join Osama in hell.

  25. Baraka says:

Yeah but he waited until 2011 to order the assassination.
Nice to know you hypocrites condone going into pakistan now that a biracial guy is prez but not when bush was prez

  26. Osamasdead says:

Hey Baraka, are you an idiot in real life, or do you just play one on this blog?
Guess you’re pissed about that bi-racial thing.

  27. RFN says:

Wait, so now that our military has killed a gigantic cockroach, the rest of the cockroaches will lay down their arms and welcome “diversity” into their world? Uh, no. There will be another gigantic cockroach to take his place. However, that doesn’t mean we should spend one more minute in Afghanistan, Iraq or Saudi Arabia or any other country in the middle east. Get our military out.

  28. itsMike2Cents says:

Man, you poor guys – this is still really hard, huh?
I thought a day or so would help calm you over the fact that this all happened on Obama’s watch (whatever difference that really makes anyway).
But it seems that you’re gonna grow some legs for this latest rage-du-jour.
    (Yea, that was some French…eek!)
    mark l.
Even you seem to have giving up the usual faux-rational ‘Bush is just as bad’ line.
Gone a little Ragspierrean with the invective.
    Y’all know about tomorrow…right?
    Hang in there.

  29. mark l. says:

all us troops left saudi arabia in 2003.
there is a blue print provided by bush, for the withdrawal of us troops in iraq.
    afghanistan?
there’s a reason that bush/cheney kept the ceiling at 25k. obama is waiting for his permission slip from europe to pull at least some of the additional 75k he placed in theatre.
    this could take a while…

  30. Ragspierre says:

“We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority.”
    Which Obama? That one…
or this one that sounds EXACTLY like Mr. Bush…AGAIN…???
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zmvexs6q42A&feature=related
See, like your MEEEEEsiah, Cap-i-tain AntiAmerica, you are simply a liar.

  31. Ragspierre says:

“Gee, I wonder what [intelligent people] would be saying if the mission had failed?”
“Thank you, military and intelligence people”.
“Thank you every day for doing what you volunteered to do in service of your nation!!!”

  32. mark l. says:

“I thought a day or so would help calm you over the fact that this all happened on Obama’s watch…”
you mean the waterboarding, the information being obtained, the team that carried out the mission being the ‘retrofitted’ cheney death squad?
you concern is noted, and i apologize that my joy does not extend to obama, but please, since no liberal has offerred an answer, let me ask you…
how was obama essential to the mission?
answer that question, and i will provide commensurate praise.
    ****************
an excerpt of an above exchange with barfo, was actually writtne with you in mind…
“and the whole concern over my feelings…
it is one thing to have a psycho girlfriend, asking ‘why don’t you love me’, but you fall into the category of being a friend of the psycho girlfriend…
    ‘why won’t you love obama?’
    you really deserve each other.”
why does my opinion matter to you, mike?
you are freaking out, because you can’t answer the above question.
    obama=non-essential.

  33. mark l. says:

“Even you seem to have giving up the usual faux-rational ‘Bush is just as bad’ line.”
can you elaborate? i really don’t understand your argument/comment.
i have a rather feeble mind.

  34. mark l. says:

if i understand your premise, mike…
i’m am supposed to heap praise, on a person that was non-essential to a mission, for a couple of days, at least, or, for an indeterminate amount of time, no less than forever…
i have been effusive in praise, where obama has played a signifcnt role. the decision to kill the somali pirates gave me a bump in pride about his ability to function as president.
i didn’t go trolling for support or symapthy among liberal websites upon the death of zarqawi, the capture/execution of saddam, or the daring raid to take ksm. I don’t expect anyone’s opinion to change over a snapshot event.
    the one gripe…
we went in with boots to be certain. the american public is not going to be shown that certainty, suggesting the feelings of foreigners is a more important consideration than the feeling of this nation.
judging by the decision to send 70k additional troops to afghanistan, this seems to be the grand pattern of this admin.

  35. mark l. says:

    “judging by the decision…”
or take a gander at libya, and explain our mission.

  36. mark l. says:

in case you missed the medium, mike…
we are on the internet. to some degree we are all actors.
barfo plays the id of the majority of dems, but in fact, not the libs. he plays it very well. i respect the honesty…
when ubl was killed, he rushed to the political significance. the gop ‘id’ would have done no less. i find no long term political significance to the event, especially since obama’s single line in the play is,
‘you have a go.’ (not that dramatic, given the actual tale that takes place in the compound)
you complain about the actors, but you are standing on the same stage, trying to pump out a solliloqy, while all the other actors are perfoming their seprate parts.
if you think i should pipe down, have a talk with barfo.

  37. itsMike2Cents says:

“how was obama essential to the mission?”
Where have I said he was?
I think the other question would be why the need/concern to sell that point?
On some level, sure…seems he made some decisions here that were well considered.
But I have no illusions that someone else might not have made the same call. Or that anyone making such calls could be just as easily dealing with explaining something that went terribly wrong.
    But what’s with this:
“photos will come out wednesday night, as obama speaks at wtc on thursday. or, possibly, the photos come out later on thursday, so the viewers who are teased with the release will have to sit and watch obama j*cking off on the american flag.”
    or
“i suppose i am pleased that the one person i know, who could have screwed it up, obama, didn’t make a doody in his pants.”
Again, Ragspierrean. I’m not offended by the profanity or the scatology. You say you only take issue with the idea that some feel/claim/suggest Obama was somehow essential here?
Just doesn’t read like that. Read like you want him knocked a lot further down than just off a pedestal.
(And it seems that your prediction of the pics being released is off. Just fyi, in case you’re keeping track of your Obama predictions.)

  38. Ragspierre says:

While I did not make a prediction, HAD I made one, I would have predicted that the photos would not be released.
Action TOTALLY consistent with “the most transparent president…blah, blah, blah”
TOTALLY consistent with Obama’s contempt for the American people.
TOTALLY consistent with Obama’s hypersensitivity to all things Muslim and Arab…except the desire of the Iranian people for freedom.
Leon Pinata would have faked me out, maybe…

  39. itsMike2Cents says:

    Ragspierre -
    Silly.
    Grab a drink with Malkin.
Make lists of thinks that like, y’know totally prove like all this stuff about Obama.
If only he’d listen to you…instead of all the qualified and informed people he’s surrounded by.

  40. Ragspierre says:

Any reader will see that nothing you said was anything but a stupid ad hominem attack, mikey.
Is Obama’s REMOTELY the most “transparent administration in history”…???
What can you name that has shown Obama has contempt for the American people…???
What can you name that has shown Obama is ridiculously differential to Arabs/Muslims…???

  41. SacTownMan says:

Looks like Barry may have been a little slow to come around on the raid!
    http://socyberty.com/issues/white-house-insider-obama-hesitated-panetta-issued-order-to-kill-osama-bin-laden/4/
Great picture of him sitting in the situation room in his golf attire!!
Notice how Penetta, Hillary and Daley are all sitting on the other side of the situation room from Barry during the raid. We may need to throw Hillary a little bone here!!

  42. itsMike2Cents says:

It’s just snark to tie the debate on whether or not to release the corpse pic to his earlier aomments about more transparency.
But by all means stand stall against ad hominem.
    Silly.
    SacTownMan -
Hard to to tell – is that b.s. via Pam Geller or Joseph Farrah?
    Interesting read indeed…
    This one for Trump’s investigators.

  43. Ragspierre says:

    Let me answer in kind.
FLUCK you, mikey. In your mouth.
    Silly.

  44. Ragspierre says:

    …and…
I note with interest you cannot manage to answer my simple questions.
Proving they are the opposite of “silly”, and that you find them too daunting to address.

  45. mark l. says:

    stm…
    good stuff.
“Great picture of him sitting in the situation room in his golf attire!!”
it almost looks like they photoshopped him in…should have gone with a tux.
