Will Boehner Blow It On Committee Chairs?

I was on the call Kerry Picket is reporting. I'm not sure Republicans realize the kind of scrutiny they're going to face what with the Tea Party movement and new media remaining engaged. It would be a shame to see them blow it right out of the gate. Any failure to deliver over the next two years is going to come with a steep price.

“Jerry Lewis of California, who is almost a poster-child with what’s wrong with the appropriations process is seeking a waiver from the Speaker, so he can take over the appropriations committee,” American Conservative Union’s Chairman David Keene said during a Wednesday bloggers’ conference call. “If he does not get that waiver, then the next ranking member is Congressman Hal Rogers, who is known affectionately as ‘Mr. Pork’ on the hill. It’s [ACU’s] view that there should be no waiver and the Speaker should not intervene on behalf of someone who essentially violates the pledge that he and his Republican colleagues made during the campaign to go after earmarks, spending, and the like.”

They’re all part of the Corrupt Bastards Club.

  2. And Newt Gingrich has doing his part lately (mostly on Fox) burying the Tea Party candidates. For instance, while praising Michelle Bachmann yesterday for her impact on fund raising and energizing the base, he insisted that she is not leadership material. And he cited the gains with hispanic and black candidates (tokenism if you ask me).
Believe me, the GOP is every much a plantation as is the Democratic party. All GOP leadership positions will be filled by the same old white establishment RINOs. There would be no better gain for conservatives than to have Michelle Bachmann chair the Republican Conference Committee to prevent the co-opting of other conservatives by cutting deals in exchange for committee assignments. I hear that Bachmann has agreed to not pursue that position? What’s with that?
We are losing folks and not a howl anywhere. Let’s forget Obama and Hillary until we get our own house in order. Right now, it’s all “Wasn’t Bush great?” and non-stop Gingrich everywhere you look. I’m going to be sick.

    “I’m going to be sick.”
    Get busy instead.

  4. Lightwave says:

    Steep price indeed.
But thanks for giving us the heads up on who needs a Tea Party primary challenge early. We do appreciate that.
I believe John Boehner and Eric Cantor are first on the list.

  5. Sandy says:

Eric Cantor is my Rep, and, unfortunately there is never anyone to primary him. The few that have announced a challenge back out within a few weeks of announcing. Never did figure that out.
As to the comments by David Keene in the article, the head of the ACU needs to be replaced himself. He has been there forever. He is big time in support of the Republican Elites. He has no room to suggest much of anything.
Any and every Committee Chair position should be awarded on the basis of Merit, not Seniority. If we don’t break the “next in line” mentality with the Republicans in Washington, we won’t need to worry about Republicans chairing anything, they will be gone. The Tea Party people will not tolerate business as usual.
Where the heck have you been Rags?

  6. Tennwriter says:

The answer is to aim to primary out some juicy targets. Let’s take out Cornyn, or whoever gets Bachman’s committee seat instead of her, we can add them to the target list.
What we’re doing right now is waiting for the other shoe to drop, and they’re just sitting up there, trying to slow drip teh bad news into our faces so that we won’t spit it back up into theirs. Now, we can sit here, and take it. Play defense even. Or we can try to inspire fear in them by attacking.
Demint for Speaker of the House.

  7. Ragspierre says:

    Sandy, thanks for asking!
I’m a practicing trial attorney, so sometimes my time is not my own. Every so often, a case comes along that has been bollixed up by other attorneys. I will immerse myself in the case to see if it can be quickly and economically turned around or concluded. It is an all-consuming mode for me.
As we say here in Texas, it is my raisin deter. I didn’t write on my blog, or even read many blogs for weeks. Not much changed…

  8. barfo says:

I think the game’s already over for the Tea Party.
The RINOs know next election the Tea Party voters will be about as motivated as the Democrats were this past election.
And if the establishment Republicans have no fear of The Tea Party (which they obviously don’t), what good is it?

  9. Ragspierre says:

    barfo…
you are getting less and less attached to reality, dude.

  10. BR says:

Hey, Barfo has nothing to worry about. Alvin Greene has just inquired about the filing fee to run for president! Mr. Obama should be just about shovel-ready by then. Time to delve in 2012!

  11. Sandy says:

BR- That’s too freakin funny. I don’t doubt that Alvin will challenge the O. That is if his unemployment benefits last that long.
