Alexander Demonstrates Class, Highlights Importance Of Supporting O’Donnell In Delaware

Alexander-ODonnell Via email from RW. Senator Alexander campaigned with Christine O'Donnell today, despite his previous support of Mike Castle in the primary. He rightly points out that the race in Delaware is about important policies and principles, not personalities.

Unfortunately, Mike Castle either wasn't able to figure out that it wasn't about him, or his policies are so outside of the Republican mainstream that he couldn't support O'Donnell and didn't deserve to carry the GOP's banner into the fall.

Centerville, Delaware – Senate Republican Conference Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN) today campaigned with Delaware Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell at a stop in Centerville, DE. Below are the remarks that Senator Alexander delivered:

"I’m Lamar Alexander, United States Senator from Tennessee and Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference.

"I’m in Delaware today because The First State, Delaware, may be the decisive state in Tuesday’s elections for the United States Senate.

"Contests are close across the country and the outcome of this race in Delaware may decide whether Republicans or Democrats have the majority that sets the agenda in the United States Senate.

Whether the agenda will be to raise taxes, or not to raise taxes on anybody in the middle of a recession because it makes it harder to create jobs.

Whether to spend more, or whether to spend less.

Whether to keep borrowing 42 cents of every dollar that the federal government spends, or to put the country on a path to spend only the money that we have coming in.

Whether to have more Washington takeovers and czars, or to get Washington out of the business of running banks and auto companies.

Whether to have a national energy tax that runs jobs overseas looking for cheap energy, or a low cost clean energy plan.

Whether to repeal the health care law and enact real reform that lowers the cost of buying insurance or whether to keep the current law that increases premiums, adds to the federal debt and will cause millions of Americans to lose the insurance they now have "Christine O’Donnell’s election can help to create a majority for lower taxes, less spending, less debt, low energy costs and lower health care costs.  Her opponent’s election will be a vote for the opposite agenda.

"That is why I am here today, because the election in Delaware on Tuesday could be the decisive senate election in the country.

"People who know me know that I am a friend of Mike Castle and supported him in the primary.

"But Delaware Republicans chose Christine O'Donnell as their nominee and it is her vote that could be the decisive vote in providing a check and balance on a runaway federal government in Washington.

"That’s why I am happy to accept her invitation to campaign today in Delaware."

    Well I’ll be damned.
It would be nice if some of the ‘icons’ finally broke true.
Anything to take the taste of Carter out of my mouth.

very encouraged by the monmouth poll…
in a vacuum, the number that is striking is the decline of coons from 57% in their 10/11 poll, down to 51% by 10/27.
lots o’numbers to pick and claw at, but the movement in sussex and kent that have o’donnell ahead, weighted against new castle favoring coons is palpable.
sample was run under a weighting of more females and more dems than reality.
i think she’ll underperform urqhaut, but if he were to win with 56%, she’d have a good chance. tend to think the polling is completely unique and will feature the largest variance in reported outcome, relative to actual. tend to think that urqhaut is doing better also, but is being dragged down(on polling) by o’donnell.
still a tremendous longshot, but clearly momentum is moving her way. tend to think that a reported polling advantage for coons is now a detriment, as his voters are struggling whether to turn out, given the ‘assured’ victory.
people less inclined to vote for o’donnell will do so with less regret, as the conventional wisdom allows them to provide a protest vote, without turning over the apple cart.
lotsa room for her gop support to increase, as with independents…
male voters can put her over the edge as well.

Nah, if these guys support O’Donnell, they’ll just get bashed more. It’s no surprise.
I hope O’donnell wins, or at least makes it very close, but no one should feel obliged to support someone with ethics problems. True believer democrats are not obliged to support Charles Rangel, either. Independents are not obliged to support Lisa Murkowski or Charlie Crist.
O’Donnell wouldn’t have supported the RINO, and the RINO shouldn’t have to support her. Castle’s shown more class than those who wouldn’t rule out a third party run, right? He lost, for good reason, and he doesn’t endorse either candidate left. So what? A lot of scumbags lied a lot about him, and he’s an honorable man who won’t lie to his state by supporting that effort.
If you pushed the ‘castle is gay’ or ‘castle impeached Bush’ bullcrap like Mark Levin did, you are the reason for this division.
I don’t even see a big problem with the division… I want RINOs to be scared of squishing away my country. But don’t cry that the RINOs aren’t endorsing your worst candidates.

  4. Dustin says:

I’m sorry, I meant that Levin pushed the impeachment myth (I know he pretends he didn’t say what he said, but oh well).
Levin did not push the gay slur, though some O’donnell supporters did, and the way o’donnell responded to it was pretty lame, IMO.
I did not intend to label Levin with something he didn’t actually do, because my principles are not negotiable.

  5. Toni says:

Sorry I can’t get excited that Alexander showed up to campaign for O’Donnell. He is one of the worst elitist’s you will find. In his own home state he won’t EVER hold a townhall and only meets with constituents at wealthy fundraisers. I live in the wealthiest county in the state and Alexander rarely shows his face here because it’s also one of the most conservative counties in the state. When he does show up it’s for a fundraiser which usually is a minimum cost of $1k per head. He is not well liked here by the ‘unwashed’.

  6. Dave in dallas says:

I am glad to see one old bull repub over there in DE… Wish it was a busload of them…. But the elitist whiners with their hands in the cookie jar are still scratching each others’ backs and sneering at the redneck rubes…. For 4 more days anyway…

  7. Doug says:

Gee, perhaps someone could tap Karl Rove on the shoulder and show him this.

I’ve met Mr. Alexander… very nice man, classy

  10. lesstressrx says:

Thank you Toni, Alexander is a true elitist and hopefully we can find a real conservative for this job when his term is up. We have a fiscally conservative Republican running against Congressman Jim Cooper, his name is David Hall. Alexander has not endorsed him. My suspicions are that David is not the elitist that Lamar feels comfortable in getting behind, unlike Former Governor Dunn ( R ) who is right there with David working hard to get him elected.
Nashville Tennessee has voted Blue Dog forever. Hall will be the first Republican holding the Congress seat in 135 years. I am betting he will win due to hundreds of grassroots efforts. Alexander is a 100% RINO. Yes on occasion he does something right, but mostly not.
We have a RINO that will be elected for Governor, Bill Haslam, that is due to people voting more moderate than Conservative. We hope to change that in years to come. Thanks to Americans that are working real hard via the Tea Parties, we will take our country back.
