Update: Yes, Castle Voted To Impeach Bush
It's claimed that some Republicans may have voted for it to force the issue. That would be another matter. I imagine a reference will emerge if that's the case.
Having failed in efforts to impeach Vice President Cheney, Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich (D-Ohio) escalated his battle against the administration this week by introducing 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush, using a parliamentary maneuver that will probably force a vote today.
You can see it here and also here. I believe Mark Levin may have broken this on his show. Or here to read the bill.
Impeaching George W. Bush, President of the United States, of high crimes and misdemeanors.

So, in summary, we have a liar on one side and a loon on the other.
That’s fantastic.
liar/loon could be on the same side. ask nancy p.
So did 23 other Republicans including Ron Paul.
“So did 23 other Republicans including Ron Paul”
Oh, that’s all right then.
No SM, what it’s saying is that it helps to know why Castle voted the way he did on the motion to refer.
“it helps to know why Castle voted the way he did”
Because he’s a nut?
On the other hand, O’Donnel lied about attending Princeton, lied about the results of her 2008 campaign, and filed a $7 million junk lawsuit against her former employer.
to know why Castle voted the way he did on the motion to refer.
sometimes it is easy to vote no on stupid!!!
“On the other hand, O’Donnel lied about attending Princeton, lied about the results of her 2008 campaign, and filed a $7 million junk lawsuit against her former employer.”
let’s impeach bush with area 51 guy
And sometimes, it’s easy to put the House Judiciary Committee on the spot with a referral from the ample lunatic wing of the Democratic house majority.
Seriously, look at the sponsor, and co-sponsors. The HJC wanted nothing to do with the referral arising from the fever swamps during the campaign season. It would’ve helped McCain if they did take up the matter.
Cordially…
There may be a case to be made that it made sense to force the Dems to eat their own crap sandwich, vote it through committee so they’ll have to have a floor vote on it.
I can accept that reasoning.
If he supported it on the merits then we’ve got a much bigger issue.
BTW, please don’t take my critique to mean that I’m meaning to defend Castle or that I’m making the case that he’s not a RINO.
It’s just that this pissing match between O’Donnell supporters such as Dan, Levin et al and Powerline (and Patterico or anyone else who agrees or defends Powerline) is getting ridiculous.
“Oh see, you powerline guys are IDIOTS because Castle voted YEA to refer an Kucinich impeachment bill.”
That vote was not about the merits of Kucinich’s impeachment resolution. It was only to refer it to the Judiciary Committee, where the Democratic leadership declared they were sending it to die because they did NOT want to impeach Bush with half a year remaining in his term. If that were “a vote to impeach Bush” then why wasn’t Bush impeached, since it won a majority in the House? Why wasn’t it a major campaign issue, coming as it did in summer 2008 campaign? And why weren’t the two dozen other Republicans who voted for it drummed out of the party?
Castle may end up voting with the Dems sometimes, but so has Scott Brown. The most important thing is he will vote for Mitch McConnell as Majority Leader and for the GOP to control Senate committees.
A vote for O’Donnell is a vote for Coons and a vote for continued Dem control of the Senate.
yes an easy “no” vote: castle fail
“Loon” is an opinion. Voting with the democrats is an observable fact. Both candidates will vote for a republican majority leader, though I personally hopey they choose someone better than McConnell for the role.
Some people say O’Donnell will not win the general. If everyone focused on backing whichever R wins the primary, there is no issue. With appropriate support and media, there is a clear distinction to draw between Ds and Rs in DE, and if all Rs commit their vocal support to either winner, Independents will see that and go with it.
My fear is not that O’Donnell will lose the general. My fear is that Castle is just another Murkowski/Specter/Crist … and will bolt with the cashbox.
yea i got 40 years here people i deserve a new job with benies
Natl,
Quick question. presume that O’Donnell can’t win the general. So, possibilities are, Castle wins and stays with the Repubs even though he only votes with them some of the time. Castle wins and ends up pulling a Specter. Lastly, Coombs defeats O’Donnell and Dems get the seat.
How would we be worse off if Castle wins ? IF O’Donnel gets the nod and Coombs wins, obviously Dems have the seat. If Castle wins, it’s questionable at best.
Even here, we are better off with Castle.
The ONLY way I can see that it makes sense to go with O’Donnell is if you honestly think that she can win which is highly, highly doubtful.
“The ONLY way I can see that it makes sense to go with O’Donnell is if you honestly think that she can win which is highly, highly doubtful.”
the overton window is going facist let’s push it the other way
Yeah, let’s not fight the tough fights. It’s easier voting for the Democrat running as a Republican. That is why the GOP is in such dire straights.
The Tea Party is willing to fight and has won races that the establishment elites already conceded. That is why these endless claims that O’Donnell can’t win in the general are so laughable. Let’s give it a shot. I predict that it will not be a rout. It’s a race worth losing. The Senate means absolutely nothing with this GOP in charge. The Gangs of McCain are too big.
In this era of blog ,we easily get nice & updated information for research purposes… I’d definitely appreciate the work of the said blog owner… Thanks!
Pasadena,
Believe it or not, I’m happy about a number of fights that the Tea Party has won. Then again, they were in red states which means that we keep a Republican seat, but, we swapped out for someone more Conservative.
Great. That’s fantastic. It’s also a bit of a different dynamic that losing a chance at a blue state seat.
Hmmmm.
@ JEM
“There may be a case to be made that it made sense to force the Dems to eat their own crap sandwich, vote it through committee so they’ll have to have a floor vote on it.”
Yeah cause that’ll make it all better??
Seriously here. How would a floor vote to impeach Bush have done anything but extraordinary harm? Did you forget about the vitriol over the 2000 election? The endless bashing by the leftist media? How do you think it would play if the media spent months covering the “Impeach of President Bush”?? How do you think it would be if every time Bush was mentioned the media included “almost impeached”? “Almost voted to be impeached”?
Yeah that will make it all better?
There is no reason whatsoever for any member of the GOP to have voted for this resolution. Having it die in committee is better than having it die right off the bat?
The reason why I’m not buying it is because there is no logic underpinning that argument.
” please don’t take my critique to mean that I’m meaning to defend Castle or that I’m making the case that he’s not a RINO”
Goodness, why on earth would anyone think you were doing THAT? I mean, every second comment from you is pointing out that Castle is a RINO, right?
>”How would we be worse off if Castle wins ? IF O’Donnel gets the nod and Coombs wins, obviously Dems have the seat. If Castle wins, it’s questionable at best.”
“Even here, we are better off with Castle.”
I guess the answer to that depends on who “we” are. If you’d break down and admit that “we” is not some monolithic entity then we could proceed from there.
>”Castle may end up voting with the Dems sometimes, but so has Scott Brown. The most important thing is he will vote for Mitch McConnell as Majority Leader”
You’ll have to pardon me if I don’t see Mitch McConnell becoming majority leader as the Holy Grail of politics.
excuse me if i don’t see bitch mcconnell the be all end all of conservatism[which he is no conservative]
>>>Goodness, why on earth would anyone think you were doing THAT? I mean, every second comment from you is pointing out that Castle is a RINO, right? < <<
Actually, that’s probably pretty close to true
Hmmm.
@ SM
“You’ll have to pardon me if I don’t see Mitch McConnell becoming majority leader as the Holy Grail of politics.”
Doesn’t give me orgasms either.
