Harry Reid Buys NRA Endorsement With $61 Mil In Pork Spending?
Erick at Redstate has the rest. Has the NRA now become part of the problem because of a willingness to accept what amounts to a soft form of bribery with taxpayer dollars in exchange for a crucial endorsement? That may well be the case.
Well, I thought perhaps the NRA carveout in the DISCLOSE Act might be the answer. But, there is more. It turns out, Reid secured a $61 million earmark for a gun range in Clark County, Nevada.
NRA members were recently treated to a three-page spread in the American Rifleman about a visit to Nevada by Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox to “thank” Reid for the earmark. The article even includes a cliché picture of Reid cutting a ribbon with a gigantic pair of scissors. (Every good porker has his own giant pair of gold earmark scissors.) More here.

At 3:25, you can hear LaPierre touting Reid’s record on guns saying, “I also want to thank you, Senator, for your support every day for the Second Amendment and for the rights of American gun owners. “
Reid has a lifetime rating of “F” from Gun Owners of America (who Ron Paul once called “the only no-compromise gun lobby in Washington”). GOA is actively supporting the 100% pro-gun Republican nominee, Sharron Angle, in her campaign to unseat Harry Reid.
But if you don’t believe GOA, see for yourself below the fold. Then call (800) 392-VOTE (8683) before it is too late and make the NRA knows they’d be betraying second amendment voters by endorsing Harry Reid.
This is what happens when the NRA, via the works of others in Heller and McDonald, comes to the realization that they don’t need to be joined at the hip with the rest of Conservatism, Inc. for protection from the Left’s siege. Could be worse; the Pro-Life Movement was thisclose to kicking Conservatism, Inc to the curb as well, if not for Bart Stupak stabbing them in the back at the last minute on the Obamacare debate.
The sooner Republicans and Conservatives realize that their issues are theirs alone, the sooner they’ll come to solving those issues. It’s inappropriate to ask the NRA (and the Pro-Life groups, for that matter) to do a good chunk of your grassroots legwork for you when you’re in no real position to return the help at this time.
BTW, that new gun range in Clark County is going to come in fairly handy. The NRA needs to build its gun safety work back up again, something that was lacking all this time they were forced to do business with the likes of Grover Norquist just to keep the Left’s siege at bay.
I haven’t looked into this too closely but you shouldn’t be surprised when the NRA endorses against so-called “liberty candidates”. They love the Fourteenth Amendment and the recent McDonald decision should explain why they love it. I have no idea if Angle is one of those particular “liberty candidates” who hates the Fourteenth Amendment, but when I saw that they endorsed Reid, it didn’t come as any surprise to me whatsoever. Just sayin’……

I hope it is not true. I don’t think the NRA support Reid. The news media are making up the story. You can’t make this stuff up.
The only good thing anymore about being a Life Member of the NRA is that I don’t have to pay them dues. But if they endorse Harry Reid, they’re going to get that Life Membership back. After all, if Harry Reid loses the next Majority Leader is going to be Mitch Mcconnell.

Contrary to popular belief, the NRA is not the wholly owned subsidiary of the Republican Party Yacht Club. It doesn’t grade candidates on foreign policy, prayer in schools or price supports for sugar beets.
The NRA is non partisan and limits its political activity to Second Amendment issues. Get used to it.

$61 million for a gun range out in the Nevada desert is obscene (you can see views of it in the video). So obscene that one wonders if perhaps they bought the land from one of Harry’s real estate consortiums. It’s absolutely outrageous and both Harry Reid and Wayne LaPierre can go to hell. I’ve always considered the NRA part of the solution; I hope they’re not becoming part of the problem.

This is no reason to back Reid. He needs to go. What has leaving him in place gotten us? Obamacare? Seriously, compromises like that are the reason we are in the position we are. The NRA is a single issue advocacy group, but backing Reid is a loser. The man has NO allegiance to the Constitution at all (This is evidenced by his vote for Obamacare). That should be enough reason enough to back his opponent.

According to the NRA this is a rumor, and they have not announced any endorsements in the Senate races for this November. They better endorse the Tea party candidate who Reid faces this November or they will lose a member here.

To even consider endorsing Harry Reid for Senator, a man who has done his best to promote Socialism and Marxism in this country, is the last straw. I am forwarding my membership card, cut up, to the NRA. I would be as likely to belong to the NRA as I would be to the KKK or AARP. Rather than endorse a National disgrace, the NRA should endorse no one.
Charles, after complaining and being insulted in several e-mails by a small list of the pro-2a votes Reid has made while ignoring what the NRA calls “most important votes”, I asked for my funds back, and they laughed at me. Unfortunately I became a “Life Member” and also signed my daughter up as a “Life Member”.
I hope you were an annual member and haven’t invested $1,000s with them for Life memberships, and other contributions. If so just don’t give then another dime until they correct their course. And NEVER become a “Life Member”. Once they have your money, they don’t care about your opinion.

I thought they meant it when they said: “There may be no vote a United States Senator casts that is more important than a vote to confirm a nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court.”
But Harry Reid has voted against the NRAs interest 100% of the time with Supreme Court Nominees. 4 out of 4 were AGAINST the NRAs position. Perfect Record AGAINST the NRA. And Reid has supported Kagan, who the NRA opposes. And the NRA has the nerve not to mention these “most important votes” or positions. They are being very dishonest to their own members.
I am going to remain a member and make every effort to change their leadership. But they will never receive one more dime from my family until they change. They have to wake up, and start being a force to protect the 2nd amendment once again. Instead of doing this political jockeying that may cause more damage to the 2nd Amend than good.
