Obama makes light of anti-tax protests
MIAMI (AP) — President Barack Obama says he's amused by the anti-tax tea party protests that have been taking place around Tax Day.
Obama told a fundraiser in Miami on Thursday that he's cut taxes, contrary to claims of protesters.
He says he's been a little amused over the past couple of days when people at the rallies complained about taxes.

Rule of thumb: Whatever Barry tells you, the opposite is true. I thank him for his consistency. He also gives these little clues when he is about to roll out a real whopper. He has this little abbreviated monosyllabic utterance for “you know”.(I can’t even say it the way he does.) Its all his own and it signals that the sentence following is especially and superlatively dishonest. Then in other sentences he has a way of elongating the word ‘thaat’ as in “I have said thaat bla bla bla”. In this case I think he is giving himself an extra nanosecond to formulate just the perfect confabulation. Watch him. It never fails.
He said this morning she was perhaps too busy “ordering bottled water” to come up with a serious speech or policy on energy. He was also irritated by “drill-baby-drill”. He said it is time she takes herself serious.
I thought his remarks were unneccasary as her speech was fitting for the event.
Then he added the obligatory nice things about her. I was just thinking, perhaps there are some “under-currents”.
Perhaps I am just a bit too suspicious of Glenn nowadays. You know he loves Jesus as his saviour, but he has no problem taking his Name in vain/mocking in a way that true Christians find offensive.

It just so happens that I was comparing my pay statements for today and for one year ago. With no change in salary (my company hasn’t done many layoffs, but has frozen pay) my Federal withholding has increased by about $15 per pay period (about an 8% hike) (twice a month) and my California state income tax has jumped by about $8 per pay period, about 25% higher than it was.
Of course, California has established some rubber rulers for measuring the state’s budget deficit; they boosted withholding but didn’t actually raise TAXES (yet!) so the Governator gets the money sooner.

It more or less vindicates Voodoo Economics and the Laffer Curve; look at what happens to the high-earner column under 1986 Tax Reform Act – a 10% cut translates to about a percent drop in revenue, for example, or how tax increases invariably precede drops in the average rate actually paid. Meanwhile, administration favorites like the Child Tax Credit and Making Work Pay end up looking comparatively pricey with little actual benefit.
But I imagine that, as usually happens, methodological problems and inconvenient conclusions will be selectively and decisively ignored.

Actually, SS taxes never went into the general fund – the surplus was loaned. Note the tense – SS now pays out more than it takes in and is starting to get repayment on those loans.
More important, SS taxes are a payment on a revokable annuity. The poor get positive return on their “investment” while those who hit the cap almost break even.
In other words, the SS system is progressive – the less you make, the bigger the difference between the benefits you receive and the costs that you pay.
