WaPo Defends Sarah Palin Op-Ed

For better or worse, I won't miss E&P when it shuts down at the end of the year. What good is a newspaper news source when it's become about as biased as they get under Greg Mitchell? Today they report on the WaPo defending its publishing of Sarah Pallin's op-ed on Climate Change. Op-ed here.

Why on earth would it need defending unless someone is trying to shut down an opposing view? That's almost as odd as the clincher here. Among the critics, E&P notes that one prominent critic was The Atlantic. heh! Gee, ya think? Now there's an objective view. Obviously WaPo did the right thing, as it was extremely newsworthy at the time.

NEW YORK It took editors at The Washington Post less than a day to greenlight Sarah Palin's climate change Op-Ed piece, according to Op-Ed Editor Autumn Brewington.

She said the newspaper received an e-mail from Palin Tuesday asking to write about the issue and it decided it should run Wednesday, before President Barack Obama was to head to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.

"If we were going to use it, we had to use it immediately," Brewington said. "It was a quicker turnaround than is often the case. But we made the decision based on news."

The Palin piece questioned the ongoing climate change view of global warming, stating: "while we recognize the occurrence of these natural, cyclical environmental trends, we can't say with assurance that man's activities cause weather changes." It brought a string of criticism in other publications and Web sites, ranging from The Atlantic to Scienceblogs.com.

Palin vs. Faux Global Warming riff raff. I love how this uneducated stupid trailer trash neophyte continues to face plant the smartest people in the country who have their Ivy League degrees practically tattooed on their asses and constantly moon us so everyone can admire where their brains are.

“Brewington said the piece drew more reaction than most Op-Eds, adding that it ranked among the 10 most-read articles on the Post Web site Wednesday. “We are getting a lot of feedback. I have heard from a few more people today than I normally would have,” she said. “Some people I think were glad that Palin had a voice in the Post, some were critical of her writing about climate change.”
Among the critics was a university professor who has offered to write a rebuttal column, Brewington said, declining to name the person. “It is always interesting to see who reaches out to us,” she said.”

After how she dinged AlGore back on his rebuttal piece that this is a fact like gravity response and she is a denier, this professor should send the Editors of the WaPo a gift basket for not running his rebuttal, after all what professor has more credibility or understanding of Global Warming than AlGore?
“‘However, he’s wrong in calling me a “denier.” As I noted in my op-ed above and in my original Facebook post on Climategate, I have never denied the existence of climate change. I just don’t think we can primarily blame man’s activities for the earth’s cyclical weather changes.
Former Vice President Gore also claimed today that the scientific community has worked on this issue for 20 years, and therefore it is settled science. Well, the Climategate scandal involves the leading experts in this field, and if Climategate is proof of the larger method used over the past 20 years, then Vice President Gore seriously needs to consider that their findings are flawed, falsified, or inconclusive.
Vice President Gore, the Climategate scandal exists. You might even say that it’s sort of like gravity: you simply can’t deny it.
    - Sarah Palin”

Just like her birth certificate responce, she’s giving a nod to those who want to beleive it, stating her position, and with very good reason stating I thinks it takes place and its b/c of cyclical patterns yet if you want to think its all man made b/c of (note my top comment about Ivy Leagurers) lies go ahead AlGore go Ahead.
I am sure David Kay wishes he had better data as did Bush when they apologized and admitted they were wrong in 2004(at least they had the balls enough to be honest) when it came to bad data and intel on WMD in Iraq.
“Let me begin by saying, we were almost all wrong, and I certainly include myself here.
Sen. [Edward] Kennedy knows very directly. Senator Kennedy and I talked on several occasions prior to the war that my view was that the best evidence that I had seen was that Iraq indeed had weapons of mass destruction.” http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/01/28/kay.transcript/
Will AlGore ever say what David Kay did while sitting before a Senate Committtee investigating how made up data on global warming was used and resulted in millions of dollars of tax payer’s money being wasted and a decline in business and industry as well as our freedoms? NO he won’t, why b/c liberals like Gore have no shame, no morals, no ethics.

Well considering she didn’t write her book, wouldn’t it have behooved the WaPo to at least find out who composed the op-ed that she agreed to put her name to. Notice how she’s refusing to debate Gore in this new area of expertise. You people sure picked a winner when you hitched your wagons to that ass.

The real story is given that virtually all federal grant money goes to studying the consequences of Global Warming (with the underlying assumption that it exists), it’s a wonder that there are any skeptics at all.

Here we go again, prove everything you said with fact, and not global warming type fact, more so- how about giving me the name of the person who really wrote the OpEd, not the person who proofed it, the name of the person who wrote it and claimed to have done so while Palin was off doing something else and taking credit for it, and when you are done, do the same thing for the person who is walking around taking credit for writing Palin’s book alone while Palin was out doing whatever. I would really like to meet the people who can put pen to paper and wa-la, instant mind reading that is so dead on balls accurate that the supposed author can do nothing but smile and say you read my mind while I was gone. Then do the same investigation on your liberal heroes and the books they wrote, because you know Obama is so smart that he needs no one to proof his work, or read his manuscript to edit it, yet he thinks we have 57 states. As far as debating Gore in the area of expertise, what is to debate when the debate revolves around data that four scientists who as far back as 1999 decided to fudge the numbers and then destroy their fudged data , and to cover it up peer reviewed each other’s bullshit work with a wink and a nod because the real numbers did not indicate a warming trend to match their political needs. That would be like debating weapons of mass destruction today ,as if the Republicans were still claiming that they were in Iraq and we just need to keep looking. As far as picking a winner – don’t pat Obama to hard on the back, he has made history – lowest POTUS approval in history in first year, although on second thought, you should pat him on the back b/c its obvious many of those who did “hitch that wagon to that ass” have unhitched it and that is no one’s fault but his own.

You would think the news of the earth might not blow up like these so called scientists keep saying it will do if we don’t do what they say would be a GOOD thing. With the hacking of their emails it turns out that we aren’t going to burn to death as they told us, isn’t that a GOOD thing? Now we can encourage innovation on all types of energy to keep it as clean as we can and also keep it inexpensive. Now we know we have a CHOICE, we can move forward with BETTER ideas without “the end of the world rhetoric in our face, and that’s a GOOD thing. Why oh why are these people being so hostile? Is all this about something else? I think it might be…..

  6. Bob says:

The Associated Press announced today the results of their independent investigation of the stolen emails that global warming deniers were claiming as evidence of fraud by the scientific community. Their conclusions are that the science is legitimate — there was no fraud:
    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2009/12/12/international/i045626S28.DTL&tsp=1
“E-mails stolen from climate scientists show they stonewalled skeptics and discussed hiding data — but the messages don’t support claims that the science of global warming was faked, according to an exhaustive review by The Associated Press.
The 1,073 e-mails examined by the AP show that scientists harbored private doubts, however slight and fleeting, even as they told the world they were certain about climate change. However, the exchanges don’t undercut the vast body of evidence showing the world is warming because of man-made greenhouse gas emissions.”

Keep in mind that the AP is, if anything, a rather Republican-friendly news organization in general. Their Washington bureau chief, Ron Fournier, once solicited John McCain for a job in his presidential campaign. The fact that they find no evidence of scientific fraud after such a thorough investigation counts for way more than the baseless, hysterical accusations of disingenuous wing nuts.

If you support Palin or anything she “writes” (c’mon) then you simply are not a very bright person and have been frozen by the fear of someone much more intelligent than you, President Obama. This woman cannot write or speak and if she is brought before the world, it will take us back many dozens of years and our power and credibility on the world stage will wane. Thankfully, the GOP will never let her reign. She is a fake with no sophistication or even basic knowledge- moreover she is a world class bigot- her embarrassing display could not have possibly changed since last year, really. Do you really want to bury your integrity, your mind, and this country in the belly of this Palin folly? That is what Liberals fear!
