I Am Joe Wilson
An unfortunate breech of protocol at last night's Obama speech. This below was my first basically unfiltered reaction during Obama's address after, frankly, I was angry at having to listen to Obama's obvious distortions and out right lies.
Will a public plan cover me if watching this idiot lie makes me sick?
Via Doug Ross are some of the more obvious lies. Given Wilson's understandable apology, I don't believe he intentionally set out to insult Obama, deserved, or not. I will say it was refreshing to see someone with a passion for truth unthinkingly inject some into a hall all too lacking in it last night thanks to Obama. In that sense, as cliche and leftist as it might sound, I very much am Joe Wilson in this case. And I am delighted to have seen at least one person there who actually spoke for me. It isn't as if I get to feel that during most Obama speeches, or even Congressional debates. So, I guess I am Joe Wilson. And I have absolutely no intention of apologizing for it to Obama, or anyone else.
Mr. Wilson seemed rattled in the wake of his comment, and quickly left the chamber at the end of the speech.
His office later issued an apology, saying: “This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the president’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill. While I disagree with the president’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility.”
Mr. Wilson also phoned the White House and reached Mr. Emanuel, who accepted an apology on behalf of the president.
Ugh. I commend Wilson for have the stones to call His Majesty a liar. Me, I wouldn’t have apologized or shown even a hint of regret. What Wilson’s statement should have been: “Yes, I called him a liar. Because he was lying through his teeth, as he has throughout his career. This is not rhetoric, this is substantiated FACT. So no, I won’t apologize for telling the truth. Is Mister President going to apologize for lying to the American people and to Congress? What does Madam Speaker have to say about this, considering how freely she accused the CIA of lying repeatedly to her and Congress?”

Obama set the stage, so he got what he deserved. He called a joint session of Congress for the “Healthcare crisis”? Are you kidding me? The only crisis is the one he’s creating which has resulted in one of the biggest taxpaying citizen’s protest (not the paid ones that the Left relies on) in recent history. I wouldn’t have apologized. I would have treated it like a tailgate party and brought my Whoopie cushion!

I can’t wait to see the giant “YOU LIE” banners at future protests against government run healthcare and other follies of our current admin. Obama needs more unscripted moments. If Joe Wilson knew he was right, why did he apologize? Was the apology for the outburst itself, or for calling the president a liar? If it was the latter, Wilson should not have apologized.
All in all, I don’t see Obama’s speech as one that changed many minds…
Dan, it took just two words for Wilson’s Palin moment. “You lie!” sunk-in the way “death panels” instantly made sense. (Then again, I’m glad he apologized as much as I am he said it.)

I love it. Wilson calls Obama a liar during a joint-session infomercial and that’s unforgivable, but it’s perfectly acceptable for Dems to boo the President during THE STATE OF THE UNION. And what’s really remarkable is that President Bush was accurate, saying Social Security was going bankrupt (something nobody today disagrees with), while Wilson was protesting an obvious falsehood – that the bill would not cover illegal aliens. It may pay lip service to the concept, but Obama and the Dems have made sure to provide a loophole by not requiring verification of citizenship for coverage, and in fact an amendment requiring just such verification was rejected in committee.
So in short, it’s okay to boo the President as he tells the truth during the State of the Union, but it’s horrible to point out deliberate obfuscation during a partisan sales pitch.
Every day I think I’ve seen the most hypocritical behavior imaginable, and the next day the Left outdoes themselves. A textbook illustration of the dangers of moral relativism.
I for one am thrilled that Joe Wilson had the courage to speak out. I don’t care what room they were in. I don’t care if the President was speaking. I have heard numerous Democrats Senators and Congressmen state openly that President Bush “LIED” to them about WMD’s. Where was this respect for the office then? Contrary to what Obama may think, he is not a diety. He does not walk on water. He does not know everything. Just because he says something that does not make it true. His sh** does stink. DEMOCRATS pay attention. DO NOT EVER TELL ME OR ANYONE ELSE TO RESPECT THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT, when the person in the White House has filled that position with bald-faced and blatant lies. When Obama respects the office then I will respect the office.

To take a page from the liberal playbook, angstly, where was your outrage when the President was booed during the State of the Union? I know that “we didn’t start it” is not a compelling argument. (Not that it stops the Left, “BUSH DID IT!” being a favorite liberal argument for just about anything.) However, I really find the manufactured outrage completely disingenuous. This administration is the epitome of disrespect (look up the word in the dictionary and you’ll see Robert Gibbs’ picture); they should hardly be surprised at receiving the same treatment. If anything, those that oppose the lies and half-truths shouldn’t have waited this long.

1. “No alternatives”. At least this is a plausible argument, albeit incorrect. There are at least three Republican-sponsored plans. The Patient’s Choice Act of 2009, produced in May. Jim DeMint’s Health Care Freedom Plan from June. And Tom Price’s Empowering Patients First Act in July.
2. “RA-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-CIST!”. This old canard simply doesn’t work anymore. In fact, the only people who keep bringing up Obama’s race are the ones accusing others of racism. Among the vast majority of conservatives Obama’s racial makeup (he’s a mixed-race man and no moreso than members of my own family) isn’t the issue, it’s his politics and behavior. As to Section 246, it’s already been cited on numerous occasions that there is no corresponding enforcement clause, and in fact Democrats have voted down an amendment that would require proof of citizenship.
Without enforcement, Section 246 is at best disingenuous and obfuscatory.

I think ‘truth’ anthropomorphized itself last night and needed a mouth to come out of and chose Joe Wilson because South Carolina already has crazy people in government who do audacious things. Go Joe! Someone send him a hot Argentinian.

But blaming his anti-Americanism, his hatred of white people, his communist views, his 9/11 Trutherism, his screaming and babbling that he never does anything wrong and that anyone who opposes him is an evil-mongering racist Nazi, his support and endorsement of tax cheats, and his leadership failures on his skin color is incredibly racist.
Obama likes to push the meme that his hateful attitudes and corruption are due to his skin color, but frankly, I know plenty of black people who are intelligent, competent, emotionally-secure, truthful, honest, and hardworking individuals. Obama’s problems are due solely to his own choices and bad character; the only way in which his skin color negatively affects him is the fact that it forces white liberals to enable and support him no matter how horribly he behaves.

What lies? I would like to see them pointed out. Do you mean outright lies, like “death panels”, or the inefficiency of Medicare versus private pay, or the horrendous systems in Canada, or the gov’t funding abortion, or the gov’t paying for illegal immigrants (even Consumer Reports calls this myth out). I have yet to see a Republican Congressman specifically point out a lie told by Obama.
AjDaddie, I also believe in working hard to get what we want out of this life. My family does work hard I am denied coverage for a preexisting condition. Now what? We don’t need to change the health care system in this country. If it is not your way then no way? Jami, read the earlier posts. The Republicans have been trying to present alternate plans. The Republicans have not been invited to the White House since April, and have since crafted three plans. Not that you would know that from either the Democrat leadership or the MSM.
And please, don’t go back to EVIL BOOOSH and BAD IRAQ WAR and try to use that to justify a massive increase in government intrusion. By the way, are you protesting Obama’s increase of America’s troops in Afghanistan? Just wondering.

As to loyalty to humanity, conservatives give more to charity than liberals ever do. How much have you given to charity this year?
More and more Americans — especially the ones who must actually PAY for this — are saying that this plan and this direction in general isn’t what they want. Our elected officials (you know, the ones who are supposed to represent us) need to listen and get back to true American values of hard work and liberty. Redistribution of wealth appeals to the Che crowd, but as Margaret Thatcher so brilliantly said: “Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They always run out of other people’s money.”
Whether it’s printing trillions and devaluing the dollar or just stripping it away with higher taxes and government forced “health insurance”, this administration is hell bent on running out of MY money, and I’m tired of it.

And why was this speech not delivered from the Oval Office to the people? That would be the tradition for a matter considered of top national priority. But no, it is delivered to the lawmakers. Why?
Because the people have already been lost, it is known that they have been, so the pitch must be made to those positioned to say “The people be damned, just f—— do it!”
That’s what that speech was about: OK folks (lawmakers), we are just going to f—— do this.

Death panels are a term meant to encompass the concept of an unregulated, unelected body of people who will decide what treatments are approved and which are denied, like the NICE board in England. If you’re unfamiliar with that group, I suggest you take some time to read up on them. Read in particular the policy — since reversed, thankfully — that certain glaucoma treatments were deemed “too expensive” until the person needing the treatment had GONE BLIND IN ONE EYE.
The point that Palin was trying to make, and that gets lost in the quibbling over the terminology, is that once the government is in charge of making the decisions on what is and isn’t “necessary”, that by definition you have people being denied treatment when they could have had it. It’s probably hyperbolic in nature, but it does focus your attention, and it’s no different than Obama preaching that if we don’t do what he says, people will die.

All Americans want is a law that makes sense. Federal programs should contain rules that prohibit payments of American tax dollars to criminals… and ALSO contain internal control procedures to make sure those rules are followed.
For pete’s sake, state and local government programs follow these guidelines (program rules + internal controls) when they received federal pass-through dollars…so why are Pelosi and Obama trying to act like it something not normally done? And the reason state and local governments follow these guideline is because it is REQUIRED to get a clean audit opinion (something unheard of at the federal level unfortunately).

If you had to walk a mile in my Washington relatives shoes, I am sure you would have a decidedly different point of view. Look, I’ll give you the benefit of assuming you are arguing in good faith. As you, and numerous others, are quick to point out, Section 246 of the bill does, indeed, say that affordability credits can’t be given to illegals (note, however, that it does NOT say that care won’t be given, and as others have pointed out, the law currently REQUIRES hospitals and caregivers to treat uninsured patients – do you really think the gov’t is going to refuse the treating caregivers reimbursement???? If you make that argument, I retract my assumption of good faith.).
BUT, (i) there is NO enforcement mechanism, (ii) there is in the bill an explicit PROHIBITION against making any treatment or payment decisions on any personal characteristics not expressly related to the matter being treated, and (iii) last, but not least, the House committee REJECTED a proposed amendment by a Republican to add an enforcement provision to Section 246.
Obama’s not a liar??? Bullshit. You are sadly misinformed as to the definition of the word “right.” No, you do NOT have a “right” to healthcare – because, in order for you to have such a right, there is a necessary, corollary requirement to COMPEL some other third party(ies) to provide you with that “right.” Rights are negative constructs – my “right” to free speech is a right not to be prevented from exercising my right – I have NO “right” to be listened to, no “right” to a soapbox, and no “right” not to bear the consequences for my speech. “Right” to healthcare? Has anyone actually heard what was in the “healthcare reform”? NOT A LOT OF HEALTHCARE. I lost my insurance and instead of going on gov plan I piad the 10,000 hospital bill. Obama was as out of control with his emotions last night as Wilson MY COUNTRY was based on freedom – and for the last 6 months my rights are being threatened daily. Obama did cut our taxes – my husband worked oil industry so we no longer have an income. Our country buys it from a dicator our president apologized to.

1. There IS no “health care crisis.” There is a thoroughly screwed up health care payment system – screwed up in direct proportion to the extent that government has gotten involved. Medicare has had more adverse impact on health care costs than just about anything else. Government mandates, government control over many aspects of delivery, government regulations – the government has inserted itself into every facet of health care delivery and payment. If there IS a problem with our health care system (and I am not conceding that point), why would ANYONE think more government involvement is a solution????
2. No Lefty yet has had a meaningful response to the following question: Two areas in American health care are characterized by three things (i) they are not covered by/reimbursed by any governmental program and most if not all private insurance (i.e., they are strictly user pays), (ii) they both feature constantly increasing technology and constantly improving standards (both areas that have been identified, including by The One, and drivers of health care cost increases), and (iii) they are both characterized by falling prices and price wars. Those two are LASIK and cosmetic surgery. The two LEAST “insured,” LEAST “regulated,” MOST free market areas of health care are also the areas where quality is going up, and costs are going down. ‘Splain that one to me, Lucy.
3. There is a VERY simple “fix” to the perceived “health care crisis,” to wit: (1) allow a national market for TRUE health care “insurance” (i.e., catastrophic care coverage), with moderately high deductibles, VERY high lifetime caps, portability, and non-cancellation for anything other than refusal to pay, (2) make the premiums for such deductible, whether paid by employer or individual (or, contrariwise, get rid of the deductions for employer-paid – I’m agnostic on that one), (3) make “standard” medical care fee-for-service, like it was in the good old days, (4) allow creation of health care savings accounts, funded with pre-tax dollars, which can be spent to cover “standard” care and the deductible amounts on catastrophic care, and any remaining amounts can be willed to your heirs, (5) have the government do as much as it can to REDUCE barriers to entry for new healthcare providers, drug companies, etc.
There. Fixed that nasty old “healthcare crisis” for ya. Took me all of 15 minutes. Try it, and if it doesn’t work, then I’ll shut up and let you implement your socialist “government health care.”
What has happened to US? If we can not speak our minds? Look at us now? A POLICE run country!!!
Oops, forgot one little piece of the “fix” to the “healthcare crisis”:
1. Cap “pain and suffering” damages to not more than 2x actual, out-of-pocket damages;
2. Cap contingency attorney fees at 35% of recovery (why the hell should the shysters get more than a THIRD of the money intended to compensate the victim?);
3. A slight variation on loser pays: Have an expedited, low-cost discovery system, followed by a mandatory, court-supervised mediation, following which both sides are required to make their “last, best and final” settlement offer, in writing.
If neither side blinks, they can proceed to trial, but the side who’s offer of settlement is CLOSEST to the actual award recovers 100% of the costs, fees, expenses, etc. incurred after they made their offer.
Now, it’s fixed.

No. It is not. Nor is it a privilege. It is a service. Is auto insurance a right? Is the internet a right? I’ll cut you some slack, as you are not a citizen of this country, but this is not how it works. And considering your country’s health care disaster, I would think you more cognizant of problems with government-run health care.
It is not government’s job to interfere with the private sector. All the problems we currently have with our health care system (which despite those problems is still the BEST in the world) would be easily rectified if government would just butt the hell out. Over-regulating, catering to illegals, and so-called free health care welfare is what has wrecked our system. Opening up health insurance to go nation-wide would introduce competition, which means an increase in quality of service, and a decrease in expense to the customer. California alone has lost BILLIONS per year for extending the same (if not better) health care coverage to illegals than actual law-abiding citizens. And the ponzi scheme of Medicare/Medicaid/Social Security has further deteriorated our system.
Our heart goes to your family as they suffer a medical crisis. But imagine how much worse it would be if they were in YOUR country; most of the treatments available here are considered too expensive by your government. Your relative might still be waiting to see a doctor if he was forced to endure your country’s system. And his survival chances would be significantly less, according to the latest studies.
We have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That means we have a right to be alive. We have a right to make our own decisions. We have a right to succeed or fail by our own merits, to own our own property, and to live our lives without the specter of government second-guessing our decisions, or completely removing our decisions.
These rights are not bestowed by any government; governments are made up of people and people are fallible. This is why the Founders of our nation declared these inalienable rights given by God, and therefore CAN NOT be altered by Man.

Pretty much everyone admits the health care system is screwed – that includes insurers. We spend more than any other country by far, have tens of millions uninsured, don’t get what we pay for – our life expectancy and infant mortality are both way down the list. And millions of people can’t leave their jobs for fear of losing coverage.
And you think that’s a good system?
As for your fix, even if it would work, who’s going to implement it? Insurance companies don’t want anything that threatens their profit – they’ve worked hard to get their oligarchy in all those states – and their wholly owned subsidiary, The Republican Party, simply asks how loud to should “NO”. Funniest thing is to hear Republicans suddenly come to the defense of Medicare – seems like it was just yesterday socialized medicine was the bane of America and had to be fixed. Now threatening to fix Medicare is fightin’ words for them Repubs.
There’s rationing now. It’s called lifetime limits, annual limits, etc. Then there’s coverage that’s specifically excluded from your coverage. And if things get really bad, insurers look for ways to deny you care – it’s called rescission.
We spend more on health care than any other country and don’t have better health. Strangely, even though there’s a number of systems that work much better than ours, no one wants to look at them, take the best.
“What we care about is our country and our Constitution” So do I. It’s as much my country as yours. Obama and the Dems won the election. If you don’t like the policies, get your people to the polls and vote them out.
Never called it perfect, WiPE. But it’s better than anything else out there, especially Obama’s socialist plan. Why else would rich dignitaries from countries like Canada and Italy come HERE for medical procedures? Simple, the health care system in their countries SUCK. They have stifled competition, which removes the incentive for companies to offer better service for lower costs. The result is a bunch of underpaid doctors who have little incentive to specialize or innovate, which slows the rate at which new technologies and medicines come about.
And do try to stop confusing Conservatives with Republicans. They are NOT the same things.
As for the solution, start with tort reform and remove the FEDERALLY IMPOSED block on national insurance options. Just those two things would drastically change things…and you’re all about change, right? Competition forces these awful wicked nasty insurance companies to lower their prices, but not to the extent they would be driven out of business, which is hat introducing a “free health care option” would do. Tort reform would cap the amount of frivolous lawsuits, which drastically reduces the cost of malpractice insurance, which reduces the cost of treatment. This gives the customer more bang for the buck.
Also, insurance companies are forcing people into plans that pay for procedures they will never use. I’m a guy; why am I paying for insurance to cover a boob job? Introducing national competition can eliminate this; if just ONE insurance company offers a plan that covers just what you can actually use, customers will flock to it in DROVES. The other companies will have to follow suit or lose business. Viola. Free market works, when it is actually allowed to.
But I don’t expect you to understand this; liberals excel at taking money, but not at EARNING it.

He’s trying to circumvent our Second Amendment rights as well, ginning up a “crisis” to give him the impetus to sign anything the Houses send his way that would remove our ability to defend ourselves in our own home while the MSM vilifies anyone with a weapon, going so far as to carefully edit out the fact that a BLACK man carried a gun to a townhall, in a city where doing so is completely legal.
