If Obama Thinks He Has Problems Now

Oh my. Why would Hillary need an attack dog par excellence at the State Department? I speculated about Hillary's long-term thinking if Obama really gets caught up in a scandal, or just starts to fade for any reason. I'd keep my eye out for stories featuring "unnamed senior officials at the State Department".

Pre-mature, perhaps – but Blumenthal will say anything about anyone to help a Clinton. This is an interesting move. If there's ever any Obama blood in the water, Sidney will be one of the most dangerous sharks. Just sayin'.

Longtime journalist and former Clinton White House advisor Sidney Blumenthal will become a special advisor without portfolio to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, The Cable has learned. Blumenthal refused to comment. But sources say he is filling out the paperwork and disentangling himself from other obligations as he moves to become a special advisor to the secretary whose presidential campaign he helped advise. The position would not require Senate confirmation.

Update: Hmm. Interesting theory. Are Hillary and Joe going to steer the course, or take over the ship of state, perhaps? heh!

  1. Ran says:

Someone – I think it was Jim Quinn – said, when he had heard that Hillary was going to State, to never ever count the Clintons out. I’ll believe Madam Hillary is gone when we see the house atop her and the shoes shrivel away.

  2. mark l. says:

aside from sid being fanatical in clinton worship, he is probably the one guy hillary could bring in as an XO who she could trust.
state still has clinton loyalists, but 8 years of bush shifted power away from them. obama is probably packing as many of his own people into state, and there may very well be a power struggle about who responds to who. Blumenthal is the guy that puts state together under hillary, through fear and intimidation. I resent blumenthal, but can’t question hillary’s choice. he is expedience.
If there was only some way we could turn sid lose upon the rest of the world with the budget of the state department, we could almost cut our defense budget in half.
dan and ran are probably right, though. his focus is, as it always has been, domestic issues/politics.

  3. MarkJ says:

Questioner to Hillary: “Why are you bringing Sidney Blumenthal on board now?”
Hillary to Questioner: “You ask too many f***ing questions.”

  4. Deborah says:

Hmmm. An interesting idea. But I think Obama’s singular act of genius was to make Clinton his Secretary of State. My prediction: eventually Clinton will overstep her boundaries and Obama will fire her. So she’s gone from Congress, gone from Washington, and gone home to take care of Bill. A win win for everyone—ok, not so much for Bill.

  5. Ad rem says:

Can’t see her getting fired…..knows where too many bodies are buried, figuratively and literally.

  6. JayC says:

Prediction – she’s going to do a Bobby Kennedy. RFK was Johnson’s Attorney General (inherited from JFK). When Johnson’s popularity started to slip, Kennedy turned on him, opposed him on the Vietnam War, and ran for President against him.
Some time in the next 2 years, Clinton will resign as Sec of State, saying that she can no longer support Obama, and will run for President in 2012.

  7. Mark Turner says:

I think it is going to be more like Teddy Keendy vis a vi Carter than anythign else.

  8. Silicon Valley Jim says:

I think it is going to be more like Teddy Keendy vis a vi Carter than anythign else.
So when does Hillary drown her secretary?

  9. Eli says:

Oh fun!!! Rahm and Sidney in a remake of Mad Max Beyond Superdome. Two men enter. One man leaves.

  10. Sydney Carton says:

Hillary would be dumb to run in 2012. The incumbent President would never be dumped by their party. She has to know this. She’s evil, not stupid.

  11. Amos says:

Blumenthal a shark? A fat, stupid, hapless shark maybe. Your sentence should have read ‘if there’s blood in the water Sydney will be the first to thrash around spastically in it, bellowing like a water buffalo trapped in a mud wallow and making a spectacle of himself.’

  12. Rich Rostrom says:

JayC: RFK resigned as AG in September 1964, just before Johnson won his landslide re-election. He left to run for Senator from NY (and won easily). There was already animosity between them, but Kennedy didn’t publicly move against Johnson until 1968.
Clinton can’t very well resign from State to run for the Senate, seeing as how she resigned from the Senate to take State. Also, since RFK was not Johnson’s choice, his leaving was more “natural”.
If Clinton leaves, either Obama fires her, or she quits on him.
Also, Kennedy was only 38 when he resigned as AG; Clinton is 60. He obviously had a lot more future ahead of him.

  13. mark l. says:

amos, don’t let his spectacular failures fool you.
you are only seeing the people he has backstabbed who lived.

  14. berto de los santos says:

Mr.Riehl. Last year I commented you about favoring Clinton, above Obama. Well, about favoring Clinton, I still have my reservations. But you were right about Obama. He is by far not the statesman I expected him to be. In fact, he comes out as a far left lightweight. I salute you for your View.

  15. wuzzagrunt says:

Everybody needs their own Luca Brasi. Sid may not be the ninja political assassin that he’s been portrayed, but in his defense, I will say that he is utterly unprincipled. For someone like Hillary, what’s not to like?

  16. Rob Crawford says:

“So when does Hillary drown her secretary?”
If it’s Blumenthal, that may just be enough for her to get my vote.

  17. Zach says:

Gotta love that this phrase gets written so smoothly by the media with no sense of irony – “Longtime journalist and former Clinton White House advisor” Shouldn’t all MSM journalists carry the sobriquet “Democrat Adviser”

  18. syn says:

I do not foresee Misogynistic Feminists who are sucking on Obama’s alter area getting up off their knees for Hillary; she doesn’t pat their heads and say good little girls like Obama does.

  19. syn says:

Oops…I meant to say ‘good little Sweeties’ because calling Misogynistic Feminists ‘girls’ is condescending.

  20. M. Simon says:

I speculated about Hillary’s long-term thinking if Obama really gets caught up in a scandal, or just starts to fade for any reason.
I foresee a war backed into by stupidity and appeasement.

  21. M. Simon says:

    Let me try it again:
    Dan says:
