What Koppelman Left Out
Salon's Alex Koppelman decided to push back against the Right over the cellphone at the homeless shelter story.
Conservatives angry over Michelle Obama's trip to homeless shelter It seems Michelle Obama can't even do a good deed without inspiring some outrage on the right.
Conservative blogger Michelle Malkin was one of those who joined the resulting scrum, writingthat the photo "ruin[ed] what was supposed to be a sob story photo op of the compassionate Mrs. O catering to the downtrodden." She, in turn, linked to another blogger, Kathy Shaidle. Shaidle — who is, to put it politely, not a particularly nice person –
I'd still like to see Koppelman or someone address this item I pointed out earlier. Since when does it make sense to throw away good food in the interests of providing homeless people with a meal "experience" equivalent to one that would cost 30 bucks? I'm not saying let them eat cake here. But if they are going to eat it, since when does it have to have seven tiers?
"If anyone brings us donuts, Steve throws them away," Gibson said. "It is not good food for our guests. We care too much to give them anything but the best. Steve wants our guests to have the same experience as if they were paying $30 for the meal."

So now you folks want these Americans to starve? I don’t know about your religous attitude, but I am almost sure Jesus would have fed the hungry. But not you folks. You want to pick and choose WHO gets fed. I think that is ultimately what you all want: To decide who eats, and what they are fed. Real authoritarians, huh? Jesus would weep at your crass and inhumane attitudes. Very sad to be you.
Jimbo is functionally illiterate.
Go have a donut, moron.
I think the point is that it is pretty odd to be throwing away good food because it isn’t “good enough” for people who have no jobs, no incomes and no homes.
That maybe, possibly, doughnuts are not such an evil that they need to be thrown out in favor of a $30 dollar meal, because afterall, the homeless “deserve it”…
That maybe, the idea of the homeless “deserving” a $30 dollar meal and being too good to eat some dougnuts is, TOTALLY INSANE and exactly the kind of liberal, utopian clap trap that I would expect.
My guess is that if someone was starving, they would be thrilled to get some free doughnuts.
Does Steve the cook get paid for his volunteer work or does he do it after his regular job?
Well put, anon. And Jimbo must be one of those dKos bloggers you were referring to yesterday. Good God, they can’t even read for goodness sakes.
Dan, the intelligence of the opposition is on the decline. About like the stock market, I would say. Keep up the good work, Dan.

Yikes, don’t even bring that up. They have 1,200 volunteers feeding 300 homeless a day. If they paid five of them, then 1,195 of them would lose their superiority complex safety net.
Millions of old cell phones are discarded every week.
They can then be obtained by “the homeless”.
You probably didn’t know and don’t care that inactive cell phones can still be used to dial 911.
No one knows if the phone was active, do they?
So if this guy just happened to have his cell phone on him when you were getting mugged or mauled by some aggressive dog, I bet every one of you pillars of morality would eagerly accept his offer to use that phone that he shouldn’t have because he’s homeless dial 911 for you.
If you are homeless, how do you recharge your cellphone?
“…when you were getting mugged or mauled by some aggressive dog…”
You better quit talking about Democrats like that. Any criticism is likely to have you painted as a racist, and that would break your spirit, cupcake. With all that time you have invested into being a lapdog, it would be a shame for you to lose it.
You steal the electricity from the lamppost.
Imagine, you get up early and collect the food, then you spend three hours preparing and cooking it, then another hours serving it to the “guests” who eat and leave. Then another hour or so cleaning up. The “guests” do nothing for their food.
It’s a soup kitchen. They throw away doughnuts because they’re trying to serve nutricious meals. Just because people are poor doesn’t mean they should have to be fed a bunch of crap and be humiliated and degraded by heartless conservatives on top of that.
But then if a had an ounce of decency and human kindness, you wouldn’t be conservatives, would you?
I remember the Bill Cosby show where he gave his kids chocolate cake for breakfast. He said that it was healthy, it had eggs, milk, flour.
Conservatives support the Doe Fund – helping the homeless to help themselves -

“humiliated and degraded by heartless conservatives”
So you want to see them humiliated and degraded by totalitarian liberals who assure them they can’t fend for themselves – and won’t even allow them to enjoy a doughnut because the liberal knows what’s better for them?
That’s degradation in its worst form for anyone who values freedom. I guess you don’t see them as worthy of that.
Oh get over yourself.
Since when is getting a free doughnut humiliating? WTF is wrong with you people?
Have you never been to a doughnut shop? Or is a free doughnut only “humiliating” if you are poor, but its a nice treat if you’re paying for it yourself.
Okay, this is exactly how stupid Americans have become, and how completely divorced from reality and now, mired in class hatred.
What other free food I wonder would liberals find too humiliating for the poor to be served?
If you want an example of a society that doesn’t know anymore how rich and successful it is: this is it, we throw away food because it isn’t good enough for people with no money to buy it, even though, across the street, we’re selling it those who do have money. Alrighty then.
I say again: this country is finished.
I like doughnuts.
If a cell phone is inactive, can you take a photo with it?
If you have a cell phone with a camera remove the sim card and try it.
If I were hungry I would even eat liver.
