Huckabee Busted On Cuba?

By

It’s a little hard to believe Huckabee didn’t know about Cuba, as he’s claiming, given some things I’ve turned up. If he didn’t, he gives the phrase out of touch and the word uninformed new meanings. On the one hand, by default Huckabee almost touts being aware of international affairs due to concerns for Arkansas’ trade issues. Yet, he also claims no real knowledge of US/Cuban relations?

“Being in Arkansas, that’s not one of the issues I am in close proximity with,” he said.

I give you Fort Chaffe in Arkansas. It was home to hundreds of Cuban refugees though that was in 1982, while Huckabee was a pastor hours away in Pine Bluff. Of course, rioting and 4 million dollars in damage received wide attention throughout the state. Then there’s this below from when he was Governor.

Fast forward to when he was Governor. How could he not know that history given this situation below?

FORT CHAFFEE – The first of an expected 20,000 Hurricane Katrina evacuees arrived at Fort Chaffee on Saturday, exhausted and hungry but safe.

Gov. Mike Huckabee said in a Little Rock news conference Saturday that he expected that Fort Chaffee would have about 2,000 evacuees by midnight Saturday. Huckabee said Arkansas probably will see as many as 20,000 more evacuees.

State Rep. Frank Glidewell, RFort Smith, said Fort Smith residents are adjusting to having the evacuees at Fort Chaffee. "We are happy to help out in a time of crisis like this,"he said. "We have alot a lot of volunteers and services." "I feel like we can make them feel at home and probably like Texas, they may not want to go back to New Orleans; we are a pretty friendly town,"Glidewell said.

Goodman said Saturday some residents expressed concern about the evacuees being taken to Fort Chaffee, remembering the Cubans who had rioted at Chaffee in 1980, causing about $4 million damage.

Fort Smith City Administrator Bill Harding said Col. Hunt assured them "all appropriate measures would be take to provide security for the citizens of this area."

They said 42 military police were being brought in from Little Rock. Also, several Sebastian County sheriff’s deputies were on hand during Saturday’s reception.

  1. Good Heavens: Huckabee “Not Really That Aware” Of Issues Surrounding Cuban Embargo

Are you kidding me? Fred Thompson knocks him for flip-flopping — not supporting the Cuba embargo after calling for it to be lifted as late as 2002 — but what is jaw-dropping is this: Since then, Huckabee said, he had…

  3. Huckabee Unaware of Issues Between U.S. and Cuba

Please, can we put the brakes on this Huckabee train? We really dont need an idiot for President. I mean, if this was his only time to be unaware of an important topic, it would be forgiveable, but this is just too much. How is …

You got anything on the anti-Christian guy who murdered several Christians in Colorado yesterday, Dan? I see you boys are adding to the hate, perhaps some more Christians will be murdered next week.

I think the problem is with Mike Huckabee himself. It has very little to do with his Christianity – and a lot to do with his unfitness to be ether a governor or the POTUS.
The man is nearly an unapologetic extreme liberal – I am still trying to fathom how he can call himself a Republican after all of the details emerging about him.
I grieve for this, in that a truly Christian candidate who is truly conservative exists in the form of Duncan Hunter, but he’s got all the traction of a greasy banana peel.
Fred Thompson is by comparison a nominal Christian, but he has his head screwed on right when it comes to foreign policy, as well as the many other areas that a POTUS needs to be on top of to be successful.

    jj,
No, why would I? The blog is about Mike Huckabee and what a RINO he is. It’s not a general news site.
It’s his liberalism on taxes, immigration, and crime, along with his cluelesness regarding the war and his corruption that are the problem.
If you want to make it all about his supposed religious convictions and support him based on that, that’s your business. By that same standard you could support Jimmah Carter. It takes a little bit more than religious convictions alone to make a conservative.

Indeed, it is a package deal.

    “No, why would I?”
Um, because you aren’t me and can’t post on it, mebbe?

  9. Wahoo Willie Sez: says:

Ah yeah…Jimmy Carter and his Marielitas. Accepting Castro’s prison clean out “refugees” by the thousands. Boy that takes me back! Huckabee will be fun to watch for a while but wont get too far. Even the Bible thumpers will see through his softness on international issues. Unless of course, Oprah tells the weak minded to go vote for him.

“— Unless of course, Oprah tells the weak minded to go vote for him. —”
Oprah is the drummer for the weaker-minded Dhimmicrats (of course, this presupposes that there are degrees of stupidity among the liberals: they are all collectively lacking sense by the conservative yardstick).
For the Bible-believing crowd, I hesitate to say that so many are “weak-minded”… but such as they can be beguiled by a trio of slick snake-oil pitchmen…
…many who choose not to closely examine the campaign processes currently in play will listen to the likes of Pat Robertson (bleah) or James Dobson (less bleah) who are shilling for Rudy and Huck, respectively.
    Hmmm. There’s that Rudy-Huck connection… once again. I’s smelling something…

    Fish, anyone?
