Senior Reduced To Tears By Reporter After Shooting
Update: The reporter, Rebecca Aguilar has been suspended. Ironic considering she appears to have also just been named Hispanic Journalist of the Year.
So much for bloggers stalking people in the news. Leave it to a real journalist to go over the top. Police say there was no crime comitted by him. He’s a senior citizen, a veteran, and ultimately he’s reduced to tears by a reporter following up on a story after his business was broken into twice in three weeks. Video below. Updated here.
"Are you a trigger happy kind of person? Is that what you wanted to do, shoot to kill?"
story here: A Ledbetter-area business owner fatally shot a suspected burglar Sunday morning – the second time in three weeks that he killed an intruder, Dallas police said.
James Walton, owner of Able Walton Machine & Welding in the 2000 block of Chalk Hill Road in West Dallas, was alerted to the intruder when his motion sensor system activated about 9 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Did i detect an icy look of unconcern on the face of the hispanic reporterette at the end of the video? Did i detect a glimmer of hope that the grand jury will decide to charge the old guy with murder perhaps? An old man, protecting his property and possibly his life and she is more worried about the dead thieves.
Here is a comment left on the Youtube site. I don’t know if it’s true.

That old man has had 42 break ins, in the last year. He has shot 3 intruders in the last 3 weeks and killed two of them. What does this bitch expect him to do? interview the burglars before he defends himself? I cannot believe how she harrassed him like she did.
maybe someone oughta check her immigration status.

She has been suspended by the local Fox affiliate over this.
What the eff has happened to Fox News?
When did they decide that hunting down innocent crime victims and preventing them from leaving by illegally blocking the exits of their vehicles and verbally abusing them became the way news should be gathered.
Why, if I lived in Dallas, I might want to find out what this reporter does in her time off. Maybe go down to the station parking lot and interview her on camera. Maybe I’d want to “interview” the station manager. Maybe interview the station manager’s wife. Maybe I’d want to visit some of their advertisers. Maybe I’d want to stake out the advertisers homes and interrupt their activities to find out why they’re so anxious to support left-wing gasbags like this dumb bitch.

Don’t forget about her kitchen counters!!!!!!11
“Don’t forget about her kitchen counters!”
Hey, Scar … what you forget is that what is good for the goose is good for the gander. Last time I checked, you don’t need a license to hunt liberals and get them on camera making total douchebags of themselves, and in the process destroying the profit-making ability of their employers.
“Journalist” isn’t an accredited or licensed occupation. Anyone with a camera and a microphone and a website can play gotcha journalism. It’s not hard to figure out what the rules are … just watch the liberal media every day if you want to know how to do a good hit job by forcing your way into innocent victims lives, pointing a camera in their face, and asking them “When did you stop beating your wife.”
Yellow journalism is alive and well – and practiced solely by liberal Democrats.
But you know what … lots of people have a camera, and a microphone and a website. And they’re gonna start interviewing your sources after you do. Uncovering the things you don’t want uncovered. Breaking down your gate.
Get used to that. Whiner.
The comments on the Unfair Park blog were excellent.
In my neighborhood, police response times for a burglary call will be measured with a sundial rather than a stopwatch.
Waitaminute.
Did Fox4 finally get a bellyful of Aguilar? Incredible. As the folks at Unfair Park noted, the next thing would be to question the editor who passed the piece. Maybe somebody can corner him in his car and shove a mike in his face.
Regards,
Ric
I think she was entirely appropriate in what she did. This man needs to be confronted for his murderous rampages. Thus man is living proof of the need for strict gun control. If there was gun control, the poor, unsuspecting young men he gunned down in cold blood would still be alive today. Instead, men everywhere will live in fear that they might get shot for merely responding to a natural instinct to relieve a store like the one this man has of products, a store which unfairly tempts youngsters into breaking in and stealing these products. Now, if this man did not have a gun, and, perhaps even more importantly, the government had banned businesses with items that others might really want, those men would be alive today.
I am caaling my Senator tomorrow and demanding a ban on guns and a stop to the murderous thugs who harm unsuspecting peoples who are merely acquiring products at a discounted rate.
She knew he was of good character from the start. She stood where he’d have to hurt her to get away, knowing he wouldn’t.
I love his opening comment:
“I’d hate to have to use it already.”
If he wanted to run for office, he’d have my vote.
Rebecca Aguilar apparently believes that Career Criminals have more rights than hard working Law Abiding Citizens. This is outrageous. And she feels that a business owner with a record of repeatedly being burglarized has no rights to protect his property! Fox News fire this Skank. Amazing what empty head idiocy does the News Media hire anyway??
What next Rights for Criminals to loot and plunder at will. What messed up kind of thinking is Ms. Aguilar promoting. No wonder our media is screwed up. Accusing him of being trigger happy.
Why Wasn’t Management Suspended?
A Texas television station suspended a reporter after berating a 70-year-old man who had to shoot two burglars in the last three weeks. Rebecca Aguilar, who had just won an award for Hispanic journalists last week, stood over James Walton…
This reporter makes me sick. She was clearly not attempting to get a story or information for a story. She was baiting the old man attempting to make him cry or get angry. She is no better then the “reporters” who will create a situation, then report on it as if it just happened.
Typical liberal media actress. Wonder why the standards at Fox are slipping to have let this gun control moonbat get hired.
Must have been hiring quotas… I wonder if it is just a matter of time before she comes back with some lawyers and a suit against Fox for “hate crimes” involved in her firing…
I love it when thugs think they can pick on “old” people and get away with it. (As I get older, I don’t think 71 is so old)
http://tallahassee.com/legacy/special/blogs/2007/06/ex-marine-71-shoots-robbers-kills-1.html
What a f*cking c*nt
Wonder if she’d ask a rape victim who killed her assailant “So, do you always dress so slutty? Were you ‘asking’ for it? Did you want to go out and hunt down rapists and kill them in cold blood? Hmmm? Hmmmm?”
And Al Gore got the Nobel Peace Prize? Aguilar should get one next year. Or perhaps she could be awarded TV C— of the Month. Now calm down please. Don’t give me a PC violation. If it were a male reporter I would have written TV P—- of the Month.
“Journalist” isn’t an accredited or licensed occupation. Anyone with a camera and a microphone and a website can play gotcha journalism.”
Actually, if the new federal shield law is any indication, you’re wrong. A journalist is someone whose paycheck comes from the ad revenue of a media conglomerate.
I’m a print journalist by trade and…I just don’t get it. What did she do that was so terrible? Yes, she was a bit too pushy and her questions were clumsy. When she asked the guy if he was naturally trigger-happy, she clearly wasn’t trying to denounce him. She was trying to get him to describe his fear and insecurity in the face of persistent thefts at his business. At least, that’s how it seems to me.
As a press guy, I suppose I’m biased. But I often agree with conservative criticisms of the press. No surprise, as I’m a conservative myself. Still, after watching the entire video, I think Ms. Aguilar needs to work on her technique, but really wasn’t trying to be as jerky as some think she is.
The Castle Doctrine laws are an unintended consequence of Liberal Judges allowing Robbers to sue homeowners when they are hurt during robberies. People finally got tired of ‘special rights’ for burglars, and Legislatures got the pendulum back where it belonged. Liberals still want ‘Poor Hoodlums’ to be able to rob and plunder. They don’t believe that the burglars will hurt anybody. Homeowners know better.
BTW, Florida has passed the 1.3 million mark on Concealed Permits. Aguilar can head there next.
Regrets in advance, but I just have to say this. This is a statement of yours, Jes: “I’m a print journalist by trade and…I just don’t get it.” This statement says bad things about you and your profession.
Jesme,
The man was crying, he asked that the camera be turned off and it wasn’t, she stood in the way of preventing him from closing his car door. She does not have the right to stop a person from leaving the interview.
She would have loved it if she could have shown his tears on the tape. Crying people are always more interesting than non-crying to these scum.
Let me correct what I said
She prevented him from closing his car door by standing in the way.
“BTW, Florida has passed the 1.3 million mark on Concealed Permits. Aguilar can head there next.”
Tell her to look me up. I’ll tell her all about concealed carry and The Castle (not Franz Kafka’s either). But please remind her to knock before entering.
BTW, F, this (“The Castle Doctrine laws are an unintended consequence of Liberal Judges allowing Robbers to sue homeowners when they are hurt during robberies”) is reported to be a terrible problem in the UK today. Because of the wacky PC movement over there the criminals are coddled and the victims not allowed to defend themselves in any reasonable way. If a criminal breaks in the homeowner must flee the castle rather than defend it, just as in Chicago.
@ Jesme
“When she asked the guy if he was naturally trigger-happy, she clearly wasn’t trying to denounce him.”
If someone asked me if I were naturally trigger-happy, I WOULD view that as an attempt to denounce me. Maybe I’m stupid.
“a bit too pushy”
THAT is the understatement of the week. Look at the body language. When she stands inside the door, not permitting him to close the door, that isn’t pushy, that is intimidating and over the top.
Having grown tired of the well-groomed airheads, the trivial news stories on local news, and the overall self-righteous pretentiousness of both local and national TV news, not to mention the 8-10 minutes of ads, I stopped watching TV news long ago. Seeing this video shows me that I made the right decision.
Many times I have looked at news stories and have found misstatements of fact. I have stopped counting. Is this a case of journalists being stupid, ignorant, or ideological? I don’t know.
If journalists put more emphasis on simply reporting the facts, I would not have lost respect for them.
Perhaps the families of Mr. Walton’s “victims” will receive compensation from the Texas Crime Victims Board (if there is one).
What are they thinking here in New York?
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime_file/2007/10/18/2007-10-18_state_panel_gave_money_to_sean_bells_fri.html
Not only are they getting money from the state, they are also getting money from Sharpton.
She’s suspended? well good. She oughta have been fired. This is all well and good that the station knows of the outrage of its listeners and those who followed the story online. But I wonder, does the old gentleman know of the support he has received? Wouldn’t it ease his mind a little to find out that not every one thinks just like the avenging reporterette?
He asked her to turn the camera off. Instead, the shooter turned it away from the man’s face. Seems like a fair compromise.
Funny thing about all this…nobody would have thought this report especially abusive had it merely been edited differently. She might have done exactly the same things, but if they’d snipped her shoot-to-kill comment, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
So…why was it left in? Listen to the entire exchange, and you can see why. Aguilar wasn’t trying to crucify the old guy; she was trying to turn him into a sympathetic figure. She goads him with the shoot-to-kill question. But then mark what follows:
Aguilar: Are you a trigger happy kind of person? Is that what you wanted to do, shoot to kill?
Walton: I haven’t shot a gun in 45 years. Until…
Aguilar: That’s what I wanted the viewers to know. So basically you were scared for your own life?
Walton: What do you think? You think I welcomed them guys into my building?
It seems clear to me that in her own dorky way, Aguilar is trying to make the guy come across as a reluctant hero. She did a lousy job of it, but she meant well.
There is simply no empathy these days. There is also no respect for elders or veterans. I’m glad she’s suspended. I think that award went to her head and she started thinking “well now I can do what I want. I’m important!”.
And i’m sure that will be the defense she will use. I might buy that IF i hadn’t watched it all the way through to the end. I think she was expecting more support for her remarks but being leftist (i’m guessing from the anti gun stance), she must do this in such a way as to give her an exit if it doesn’t go over well.
How did she know that he was buying a new gun? Was she stalking him?
Mr.Walton, old school, was being polite. He did not want to answer her questions, he wanted to leave, she wouldn’t let him leave.
And the most important thing is that he did not want his face shown on television as he is afraid of retaliation.
KDFW out of line with ambush reporting
KDFW, a Dallas-Fort Worth television station, crossed the line into sensationalist drivel when Rebecca Aguilar, an apparent award-winning reporter, ambushed a 70-year-old man in his car after he defended his property and life with deadly force. He shot…
I still think you guys are being too hard on Aguilar. But I must admit that the insular arrogance of my profession is a major problem. Too many journalists think we’re practically godlike creatures who ennoble society by our mere existence. Few professions in America are more despised. And yet when you point this out to us, we usually reply that it’s only to be expected; we’re speaking truth to power, after all. Those who dislike us are either stupid or corrupt. There’s nothing wrong with us. How could there be? We’re journalists!
what i personally find particularly disturbing is that she didn’t even change clothes before she went on air. What woman in that profession doesn’t have an extra suit tucked away? The outfit says “That’s ME!” POSITIVE ID! Must have been in a big hurry to get that story back to the station. How did she know he was buying the shotgun?
Not to change the subject, but Hispanic Journalist of the Year? How racist can you get? Can anyone imagine a White Journalist of the Year award? Of course not. That would be horribly offensive. What have we come to?
Back on topic. I wish there was something we could do for Mr. Walton. A show of community support to say “We think you did the right thing & we’re behind you”.
I can’t feel bad for goblins that get killed committing crimes. There should be more/better media coverage of these incidents. Perhaps it would deter future goblins from getting into the biz.
God Bless Texas!
Jesme,
I, along with two others, was interviewed by an award winning TV reporter. Altogether, the interviews took about 2 hours. What was shown on the nightly news, and the hype preceeding the news, was an abomination. The interviews were edited into lies by taking things out of context.
I had to email everyone I know to point out the lies.
I’ll pick my reporters more carefully in the future.
If a reporter really wanted to make a name for him/herself, they’d film a story of this guy getting a medal for defending his property.
S
PS Where’s Wayne LaPierre of the NRA?
Dan, thank you for using my story on this, I appreciate it…
I don’t watch FOX4 news anymore, haven’t for a long time, they are pretty 3rd rate here in the D/FW area, and it used to not be that way, I wasn’t aware she had been suspended, I knew she was being looked at pretty hard but not suspended…
Good story on your part too.. Kudos…
TexasFred
Jes, here is the news: Texas man shoots second burglar in a three-week period and prepares to do so again by buying a new shotgun. (You might want to edit this more to your liking, but I hope you will agree this encapsulates with who, what, when, where, why, THE NEWS.)
This is something (entertainment?), but in my view NOT the news: “Are those tears, of what, of remorse?” “About killing two people?” “He’s serious when he says he’s not afraid to use it [the new shotgun, FB].” “Are you a trigger-happy kind of person? Is that what you wanted to do? Shoot to kill?” “So basically you were scared for your own life?”
These types of questions and statements are for the legal system to ask and answer, Jes. Is it her place as a newsperson to get either sympathy or blame from the public for this man? My answer would be no. Tell me if I’m wrong.
This is the exact problem, Jes: “It seems clear to me that in her own dorky way, Aguilar is trying to make the guy come across as a reluctant hero. She did a lousy job of it, but she meant well.”
This is so Michael Moore. The only thing is that they try to pass it off as real journalism, and that’s frightening. The criminals are now the victims, good-guys are now bad, black is white, white is black, 2+2=5. Its almost like these people think they are so much smarter than everyone else that they can make you question conventional wisdom and common sense even when there’s no reason to. I don’t think I have ever seen a more blatantly agenda-driven piece in my life.
Jesme, I think the way it was edited is irrellevent. I’ve worked in TV for 15 years, and as I always tell people: Editing is just a form of lying. The real issue is that she ambushed him and was very insensitive and arrogant. The truth of the matter is that if he had been killed by one of the intruders she wouldn’t have even considered the story newsworthy. This is not reporting. This is “creating” news… twisting it, warping it to support an idealology. Very disturbing.
KDFW, like any broadcast source, holds their license as a trustee of the public good. Any conscientious person can write to the FCC and object to their behavior.
If you do so, please request that a copy of your complaint be attached to the station’s file, as part of the public comment portion of their application for license.
Be sure to copy the station manager.
This reporter and station’s behavior is outrageous, a blatant violation of this gentleman’s civil rights and right to his good name. I don’t think that the station can argue that it is in the public interest.
Don’t forget another important point, a Grand Jury will be convened to decide if he should be indicted. Was the reporter trying to sway them against Mr. Walton.
Dmartin, I don’t think she was trying to push an ideology. She was trying to get an emotionally riveting story about an old man pushed to the brink. She did a lousy job of it.
They could have edited the story to make Aguilar look less pushy. But when she did, they got the emotion they were looking for. So they left it in.
No question, though, that this is a major problem in the way journalists do our jobs. Whether she was pushing an anti-gun agenda or trying to make the old guy into a hero doesn’t ultimately matter. The real problem here is that Aguilar wasn’t content to let the story tell itself. She came in with a template. The interview was all about getting Walton to say something that fit the template. Ideology isn’t the issue at all. This is really about an overall approach to journalism that is highly problematic.
Too many of us already know what the story is supposed to be, before we ever write it. Then when reality intrudes, we try to bend it to fit the story. I think Aguilar’s mental image features a poor old guy who got fed up. She wanted to show him in that light. He just wanted to go on about his business. When he wasn’t sufficiently forthcoming, she goaded him to get the kind of quotes she wanted.
Journalists do this kind of thing all the time. I’m not even sure it’s always a bad thing. But it can lead to some wretched results, like this report.
If this video “interview” of an honorable and law-abiding senior citizen self-defense first responder is any indication of this lady’s style of attack/ambush journalism, she should have never been hired by KDFW in the first place, unless that is the current intent and style of their news coverage.
God help her if she should ever be mugged…have to use her bumbershoot.
Fox News is a sensationalist network. They only look “conservative” because all the other news sources are more left-wing than Trotsky himself.
Fox news on cable and local Fox news are not the same.
Local TV news is mostly just cheap filler material between really, really annoying local commercials. They didn’t have to pay James Walton to use his story to help sell cars and furniture.
The really sad part of the story is that the crime rate is killing small Dallas businesses on the South side of the Trinity river. How would anyone get a loan and insurance to start a new business in this area?
Jesme, perhaps we should stop guessing about her intent and ASK HER….if she’ll admit it at this point.
I’m a normal middle class american woman and i know how it came across to me. Pretty much how she intended.
Has he really had 42 burglaries in a year? If so, I would say that he has the patience of a saint. I would have taken action loooong before that.
To all of you who are saying Ms. Aguilar was only trying to get the compassionate side of the old man’s story, then why didn’t she interview him in his HOME instead of stalking him to the gun shop then asking “Whats in the box?”
She did exactly what most of the people here SAY she was doing. She had every intent of making him squirm.

Journalist Rebecca Aguilar Suspended for Harassing Old Man
Bad news for Rebecca Aguilar, the Hispanic Journalist of the Year: She has been suspended for harassing a 70-year-old man over his politically incorrect willingness to defend his home and place of business from burglars. James Walton, owner of Able…
Something to consider – she stopped the old man coming out of Academy Sports with his new shotgun. If she was going to interview him, wouldn’t she have gone to his home or business place? To catch him at Academy she should have had to follow him there. Isn’t follwing him some kind of harassment?
I bet she is a Democrat
Ambush Journalism – the mark of unprofessional journalism.
There are plenty of other people she could have gone after.
She could have ambushed the criminals asking why they were breaking in. She could go after the police asking why they can’t protect the public. She could go after the District Attorney and find out how many of the other 42 break-ins have been prosecuted.
But no, she goes after an old guy just doing the only thing he could do.
I hope the network steps up and fires her!!
Maybe someone should check to see if she is legal…
“I think Aguilar’s mental image features a poor old guy who got fed up.”
And I think it features a borderline maniac who wants to swagger around with an AK-47, blowing away passers-by at random. Because firearms ownership is all about psychological instability, you know. And compensation. Though at least she seems to hold him in sufficient esteem to assume he won’t just start his engine and back over her, like she clearly deserved.
Seriously, Jesme. “Are you naturally trigger-happy?” That’s not “goading him for the money quote,” that’s “declaring him guilty with no chance to prove innocence.” That’s “calling him a cold-blooded killer to his face.”
And, as long as we’re talking perceptions and templates, that’s also pretty much what we’ve come to expect from Professional Journalism as a whole. Particularly after the “newsroom convictions” of the Duke lacrosse players, if you need something more anecdotal.
I thought it rather shameful the way they focused on his shaky hands & said he was “uncomfortable” with having had to shoot the thugs – what, have they never heard of senior citizens with shaky hands? Leave the nice fellow alone for crying out loud, he deserves respect & honor, not criticism from the likes of her. I’m glad they suspended her, I hope they fire her next. She’d make a great New York Times reporter, she certainly doesn’t belong on Fox.
Here in Los Angeles, the local Fox News (channel 11) is far to the left of any other English-language station in the area. Even CBS.
About 75 % of their reporters are card-carrying La Raza types, and it’s wall-to-wall left wing propaganda. I especially enjoy the woman reporter who pronounces English named locations as Spanish terms, then corrects any English-speaker if they mispronounce a Spanish name. Needless to say, I seldom watch them anymore.
So, no surprise this was on Fox.
I wonder if Senorita Aguilar’s panties are really bunched because Mr. Walton has a border fence around his property? I already know La Raza’s position on this.

As a Texan who was revolted by this, I would have put her under citizen’s arrest, by force if necessary, for unlawful detention.
A reporter did this same dogsh*t to a sheriff deputy friend of mine for a couple months when he shot a crack head that was actively trying to kill him.
As a civilian, I would never take the load of crap my deputy friend had to take from the head-injury estate. Nor would I have taken it from this Aguilar c*nt.
The producers should also be shown the door.

Breitbart is doing an analysis using liveleak
“What the eff has happened to Fox News?”
FOXNEWS is not responsible for that report. FOXNEWS is a separate division of FOX; this woman works for the FOX broadcast station and its local affiliate.
That said, I think a lot of people kid themselves about the nature of FOX NEWS. FOX- the entire company, both the broadcast and news channel- is about sensationalism. Greta Van Susteren, Bill O’Reilly, and the obnoxious, invasive “special reports” are the defining personalities of the network, not Brit Hume or Neil Cavuto.
Much like certain radio personalities, many people who don’t necessarily enjoy a lot of the content watch because they ask liberals the questions that no one else will ask. But make no mistake, FOX is the way it is to make a splash.
The video can be found here now:

I’m not ready to let this go and i don’t think RiehlWorld should be either. What does a news show do? It reports the news. Well THEY WERE the NEWS. And now they want to intimidate and censor? Well this isn’t right.
I guess Rebecca would just let a stranger take her property without defending it! Honest hardworking citizens have every right to defend their property. This gentlemen was well within his rights. I believe the reason there is so much crime and “brazen” criminal acts is that there’s often no consequence for their actions. IF criminals are captured, how long are they actually off the streets before they are released to continue to take what doesn’t belong to them and worse yet, take someones life. I for one am fully prepared to defend my home and property. If someone comes into our home uninvited they will be looking down the barrel of a gun and we won’t hesitate to use it to protect ourselves.
Certain investigative reporters (paparazzi included), such as witnessed by FOX 4 News’ Rebecca Aguilar, appear captured on their own videos as practicing illegal incarceration and/or unlawful detainment of their interviewees in order to get fodder for publication. It’s as if it’s a practice reporters resort to, perhaps to fulfill some quota set by their employer. Shame on Ms. Aguilar if she acts this way on her own volition.
It’s no wonder that Mr. Walker was in tears, perhaps because he has been put through such badgering, intimidation, threatening and intrusive tactics by the deceased robbers, and now a reporter, all because they fail to understand that Texas Law permits home owners and business owners the right to defend themselves and their property. Mr. Walker acted within Texas law. The deceased robbers weren’t stupid. Criminals also know the laws, but these two decided to break the law, and their decision cost them their lives.
By the way, what did Ms. Aguilar have to say about the Metro PCS cashier who was shot in the chest through a glass door on September 15, 2007 by a robber, while witnesses and bystanders mosied about and DID NOTHING! Did she treat the cashier with the same contempt as she did Mr. Walker just because the cashier tried to defend someone else’s business as he attempted to lock the robber inside?
Tell it to FOX 4 News’ Tim Ryan. He seems to have things in the proper perspective. Can’t wait to hear what he has to say about all of this.
If you’re trying to find video of Rebecca Aguilar
