Re Holland: Actually, It’s Worse
Unbelieveable. Larwyn sent a link to a post from Holland without a MSM link in it on Hollands projections for an Islamic, Jewish, Christian culture. The guy’s correct, but it gets more serious via Google and Gulfnews. Holland’s financial services industry is going to start introducing offerings that comply with Sharia Law. What are they nuts?
"Dubai and London are developing into the international centres for Islamic banking. The Netherlands is fit to also play a role here," Bos added.
The finance ministry signalled an increase in the Netherlands in financial products that comply with Islam’s ban on interest and the trading of debt.

“Holland’s financial services industry is going to start introducing offerings that comply with Sharia Law.”
FWIW, there’s several banks in the US doing it too.
The main thing is you have to avoid interest — which means the bank owns your house and rents it to you for some fixed period, then they would sign it over to you. They can take a profit on the rental because its not officially considered interest.
Of course, with no equity building in the property that you could measured, this makes getting a better rate difficult, and proves as a disincentive for making any improvements since all you’re doing is improving the bank’s property. Its no accident that a lot of residences in Sharia areas look kinda whooped. There’s no percentage in improving anything.
Business loans require making the bank a “partner” in the business because they can’t charge interest.
I was thinking there was probably soemthing like that happening. Still, in our economy, it’s a blip. In Holland, the Saudis will own the damned place in 5-10 yrs. They could probably buy it now if they wanted and it looks like they’re about to.
Dan, look at Dutch history before you make a comment like that. We’ve been in trade and commerce for the last 1000 years at least and nobody has bought us yet. In fact, look around you. Many companies you may think of as American are in fact owned or mostly owned by Dutch companies. Shell Oil, US Foodservice, Tops, Time Insurance, LaSalle bank (OK, sold last month) etc. etc. And those are just the ones I know about. It is completely in line with Dutch entrepreneurial spirit to set up a new way of banking that allows Dutch banks to make a profit off Sharia followers. What’s wrong with that?
I smell a rat with “Sharia” finance:

The way Sharia loans seem to work is that one winds up “leasing” to own, with the actual amount of money going to the lender amounting to significantly more than we pay at present.
That is, the bank buys the house outright, and then tacks on a hefty margin, and then “rents” the home out to the Islamic owners, until the last payment is made, upon which the house is deeded over to the Islamic owners.
Watch for this model to gradually become the “way it works” in the not too distant future.
northerner, nothing is wrong with Dutch banks selling services to Muslims. But there is a great deal wrong with Ms Ella Vogelar’s brain; she needs a lobotomy or at least shock therapy, as does whoever appointed her to a government position.
“Watch for this model to gradually become the “way it works” in the not too distant future.”
No way. US banks have very little interest in the hassles of owning residential properties. Its bad enough now having to trust the owner to not trash the place or turn it into a dope farm that might get seized.
Fred, for once I completely agree with you. Trust me when I tell you that she does not represent the opinion of the majority of Dutchmen. She has been catching flak from all sides, including her own political party, over this idiotic remark.
Thanks for that news, N.
As if Christianity and Judaism aren’t 100% opposite to Islam’s teachings.
I pretty much stopped reading the piece when I saw that utterly ridiculous statement. How deeply ignorant does one have to be to say something like that, let alone believe it?
Sharia all by itself is very similar to Jewish law, and simply offering financial services that avoid direct interest but find other ways to lend money at a profit is a challenge but hardly a move toward creating an Islamic state. Yeesh.
I wonder if that woman is willing to become her husband’s chattel? The Islamic, no-interest debt thing, as long as it remains an option is no threat. But what an eye-opener to their need for control. Disgusting.
I always viewed Dutch society, especially the women, as being very with-it, very independent and individualistic. I view our populace the same way. If whatever idiocy spreading around Europe like a sharia-cancer attempts to make an impact here, it won’t work. Our precious feminists have been bored into stupid for the last decade, and an invasion of Sharia law into the social fabric of our society would give them something legit to rise up in arms against. Chances are even the anti-feminists would join forces. And if they don’t, the fashion industry will.
This world has gone nuts…
Uh, Phoenix, I have a sneaking suspicion our feminists will embrace sharia law, being the leftist they mostly are. It will be perceived as super control and socialist and they will mistakenly believe they will be one of the controllers.
islamic harrasment of European women is what is finally going to set off the major backlash against islam. I know it doesn’t look like it now, but things are staring to build. Look at how well the center right parties have done recently in Europe. Now I know European conservative parties are
alot like moderate Dems , but it is a step in the right direction.
The key to this backlash will be the fact that islam can’t stand to have limits placed on it. There will be some small event that will at first go unnoticed, it will rapidly build into violent conflict. Think the Rodney King riots in LA. After the smoke clears, Europe will be a much less freindly place for islam. My guess is it will start in either Britain or France.
SDB,
It started in Germany when a female judge adjudicated a case for a woman complaining of spousal abuse. The judge dismissed the case and said she would abide by the law of Sharia – which the woman lived under. YIKES!
I think the backlash will be horrific. The Muslims who have lived in Europe have seen the freedoms women enjoy even while abiding by their own Sharia laws. I doubt for a minute it passes their notice that their lives would be a whole lot better without Islam’s degradation of women.

You might be right, Philip. They are that stupid. But it won’t last for long once they realize their attempts at control will get them spanked or beheaded. Actually, if worst came to worse and we had to fight any attempts to control American women, the feminists could do some good. Not that the rest of us won’t, but they’re already loud and obnoxious. Let them get stoned first.
I’d suggest looking at the Fem versus Sharia Law thing another way. The far Left embraces liberalism as some do a religion. It defines them, for now. Many won’t “slip” into being controlled due to thinking they will be in control. They will, by force, or choice, simply be converted as a result of some perceived spiritual enlightenment.
Fine. The more beheadings the better. Here’s your enlightenment, honey. That’ll teach you to talk back.
Hmmmm.
@ Northerner
“Many companies you may think of as American are in fact owned or mostly owned by Dutch companies. ”
That really doesn’t have anything to do with the Dutch at all. It mostly has to do with American federal tax law which stipulates that ALL income a corporation generates is subject to American federal tax law. In most other countries only at income generated in that country is subject. But an American based corporation has to pay federal taxes on ALL income generated world-wide.
Hmmm.
@ Dean Esmay
“Sharia all by itself is very similar to Jewish law”
Really? I had no idea that Jewish law allow men to divorce their wives by simply repeating “I divorce you” three times.
Or is that “very similar” actually more like “nothing like”?
@ memomachine:
That may be a factor in American companies willing to be bought, but not in Dutch companies willing to buy them or willing to set up American subsidiaries (like Shell Oil).
I tried googling for a list I saw a few years ago, which showed The Netherlands as the 3rd largest foreign investor in the US, but unfortunately couldn’t find it. Rest assured, for a country with only 16 million inhabitants, we’re not doing too bad.
