Update: ABC picking it up from Reuters with less meat than the NYTimes but an interesting add.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 27 – Associates of I. Lewis Libby Jr., Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff, expected an indictment on Friday charging him with making false statements to the grand jury in the C.I.A. leak inquiry, lawyers in the case said Thursday.
Karl Rove, President Bush’s senior adviser and deputy chief of staff, will not be charged on Friday, but will remain under investigation, people briefed officially about the case said. As a result, they said, the special counsel in the case, Patrick J. Fitzgerald, was likely to extend the term of the federal grand jury beyond its scheduled expiration on Friday.
As rumors coursed through the capital, Mr. Fitzgerald gave no public signal of how he intends to proceed, further intensifying the anxiety that has gripped the White House and left partisans on both sides of the political aisle holding their breath.
Mr. Fitzgerald’s preparations for a Friday announcement were shrouded in secrecy, but advanced amid a flurry of behind-the-scenes discussions that left open the possibility of last-minute surprises. As the clock ticked down on the grand jury, people involved in the case did not rule out the disclosure of previously unknown aspects of the case.
White House officials said their presumption was that Mr. Libby would resign if indicted, and he and Mr. Rove took steps to expand their legal teams in preparation for a possible court battle.

Indict Libby——-at the right elbow of Cheney and this will make Cheney’s life he^^. Maybe Cheney won’t have so much free time to go out and find contracts for Halliburton all the time…he will be scurring around trying to stay out of jail….love those umbrellas of “under investigation”. The smell will surround Cheney during the preparation of a trial for Libby.
Keep Rove in limbo——to make Bush continue holding his breath. Yes? No? Will they try to impeach me Bush says? Rove is connected to me – help surgeon, can you do emergency surgery?
KAREN……..HELP ME! ha ha Watch how fast Hughes appeares on the foreground now.
Can you say……….another 2 years of brew stiring by Fitzgerald, ha ha, to keep repubs off balance during time people are organizing their election machines.
Watch and see if they won’t say the words CONDALEEZA RICE before it’s all over too.

Well, I don’t like these “you lied or mis-spoke or got confused” crimes. If somebody lies in court to assist a crime then charge him/her with being an accessory after-the-fact to the crime [an actual crime].
If I were on Libby’s jury pool I’d be inclined toward jury nulification.

I don’t think anyone outside the Beltway, big media or the blogosphere has figured out that the world isn’t watching.
Get it over with already, it’s almost time for the next circus to come to town.

Lets see if he follows Delay’s lead and claims he can not get a fair trial in a Democratic community – like Washington DC. All them poor and black don’t look too good to scooter now do they.
If Bush were as politically smart as his worshippers claim him to be he would choose Fitzgerald as his next supreme court nominee. He is at least as qualified as Miers.
I did not see the Fitzgerald kind of honesty from either of the former choices for supreme court justice.
But could we expect the Fitzgerald character from a person who promised us all a new integrity in the white house with Scooter in tow. Obviously not.
Dan,
Thank you very much for your outstanding attention to detail; moreover, I extend my gratitude especially for all the links.
Before launching straight into this matter I would like to get some facts or opinions from you and some other more experienced posters and bloggers insofar as I am relatively new to this medium.
Once whilst visiting Michele Malkin’s blog I happen to notice a published list of most visited blogs. Please correct me if I am wrong but it appeared that this list was not about the popularity of one’s blog but rather how many links were provided. Suffice it to say that Ms. Malkin’s blog is very highly placed; is this from her links?
Now, on the other hand, I am proud to be included in the 5 million visits; however, I must admit that I probably skew the data on the pages read. Seems like sometimes I am here all day.

Ooops! Sorry guys, I left out my main portion of my aforementioned post.
This business vis-a-vie the grand jury, in my opinion, is ostensibly a very poor attempt at a witch hunt.
I am not asking for anyone to agree or disagree with me; this is just the way I feel. Like it or not it’s our money being spent and I can think of 1001 different ways I’d like my money spent.
If those involved with this reckless attempt at destroying the credibility of our Nation continue, my question is: What was the original motive? And where is the investigation now? Whew! From Valerie Plame-remember her-to a carte blance hunt is ridiculous.
Just my opinion,
Paulo
